This Opportunity

WSP USA Inc. is seeking an Lead Electrical Engineer for transportation construction projects throughout California. This individual will have the opportunity to work on some of the largest infrastructure projects in the country, and have key responsibilities for project delivery and quality. You will be part of a diverse and dynamic team of engineers, inspectors and scientists focused on supporting one of our key service and growth areas.

Current knowledge of electrical and electronic technology with the ability to utilize such knowledge as outlined in typical duties. Knowledge of common electrical instrumentation and equipment used in testing of materials associated with traffic control, traffic management and highway lighting systems (oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, power analyzers, multi-meters etc). Ability to use a computer and work with databases. Ability to work independently and in a team environment. Familiarity and knowledge of Caltrans Standard Plans and Specifications and the Transportation Electrical Equipment Specifications. Knowledge of quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) methodology. Must be able to analyze specific problems and develop an effective course of action, while maintaining independent work conditions. Familiarity with the Division of Engineering Services, Materials Engineering and Testing Services procedures and policies is desirable. Good interpersonal skills are necessary.

Your Impact
  • Perform Quality Assurance (QA) inspections and testing on material used on State-wide construction projects. Duties include QA testing of electrical materials including but not limited to traffic signal control equipment, closed circuit television equipment, LED roadway safety lighting, changeable message signs, LED traffic signal modules and service equipment enclosures. Testing will be performed in a laboratory environment or at the source of manufacturer. Candidate will be required to frequently interact with Resident Engineers, manufacturers and contractors.
  • Analyze Caltrans project plans and special provisions; identify electrical material requiring inspection; ensure appropriate contractor and Department-furnished electrical material has been specified; ensure electrical material has been manufactured in accordance with current Caltrans' construction practices.
  • Conduct testing and prepare reports, based on knowledge of Caltrans Standard Plans and Specifications and the Transportation Electrical Equipment Specifications for QA acceptance testing of electrical materials.
  • Design and construct automated test setups for quality assurance testing of electrical material.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited college in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 7 to 10 years of relevant post education experience in an electrical engineering capacity.
  • Proficiency with computer operating systems, the use of databases and programming
  • Experience with Windows, Linux, OS-9, Excel, Filemaker
  • Experience in developing programs using Visual BASIC/Suite
  • Must have excellent communication and writing skills
  • Ability to work independently in a semi-industrial laboratory environment subject to variations in ambient temperature and noise
  • Must be able to use equipment properly, follow correct procedures and methods, and produce timely and accurate results. Failure to do so could result in consequences from developing non-functional equipment and instrumentation to creating hazardous situations.
  • Must be able communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with vendors, contractors, manufacturers, local agencies, and various State Personnel
  • Employee may occasionally be required to move materials weighing up to 50 lbs and to sit and/or stand for long periods of time

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Professional Engineer License within California
  • Experience with State DOT
  • Experience with large Design/Build construction company

Compensation
Expected Salary: $110.700- $164,450
WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant's sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
