Full Job Description
Lead Electrical Engineer - Own Next-Generation Power Conversion Systems for Advanced Energy Hardware

Hawthorne, CA | On-site

Opportunity Summary

Join a venture-backed energy technology company developing advanced power generation systems designed to address growing global energy demand. This role offers the opportunity to lead the electrical architecture behind a new class of high-performance energy hardware, taking ownership from initial concept through testing, validation, and production scale-up. As the technical lead for power conversion and electrical integration, you will work directly with founders and senior engineers to define system requirements, evaluate technology solutions, oversee vendor partnerships, and support hands-on hardware development. This position combines deep technical ownership with real-world execution, requiring both first-principles engineering and practical decision-making as systems move from prototype to commercial deployment.

Job Duties
  • Own the end-to-end electrical power conversion architecture for a high-power energy generation system
  • Define requirements for generators, active rectifiers, drives, transformers, switchgear, protection systems, grounding strategies, and related electrical hardware
  • Establish system-level electrical specifications, interfaces, and performance requirements
  • Lead technical evaluation, selection, procurement, and management of external suppliers and technology partners
  • Review vendor proposals, test data, technical documentation, and design trade studies to support key engineering decisions
  • Integrate electrical hardware with controls, instrumentation, and mechanical systems
  • Support commissioning, troubleshooting, validation testing, and field demonstrations
  • Develop scalable solutions that balance performance, manufacturability, reliability, and cost
  • Drive the transition from demonstration hardware to production-ready systems
  • Help determine long-term make-versus-buy strategies and lead internal development efforts where appropriate
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure successful system integration

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field
  • Strong understanding of electrical machines, power conversion, motor drives, grounding, protection systems, or EMI/EMC fundamentals
  • Experience specifying, integrating, testing, or operating high-power electrical equipment
  • Ability to evaluate technical tradeoffs and make sound engineering decisions using data and analysis
  • Hands-on experience with electrical commissioning, instrumentation, debugging, and hardware testing
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively across technical disciplines
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced engineering environment with significant ownership and autonomy

Preferred Experience
  • Experience with high-speed rotating electrical machinery and associated drive systems
  • Generator and power electronics integration for turbomachinery, industrial equipment, or other rotating systems
  • MW-class power conversion systems and grid or load synchronization
  • Experience integrating drives, inverters, or power electronics with control systems using industrial communication protocols
  • Familiarity with electrical safety standards, grounding methods, protection schemes, and industrial installation practices
  • Startup, advanced hardware, or early-stage product development experience
  • Experience supporting systems from prototype development through production deployment

Why Join Us
  • Join a post-stealth, venture-backed team developing breakthrough energy hardware with active testing already underway
  • Take ownership of a critical system from architecture through validation and production
  • Work directly with experienced founders and engineering leaders on first-of-a-kind technology
  • Meaningful equity ownership with significant opportunity for impact
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Fully stocked kitchen with snacks, coffee, and lunch
  • Opportunity to help shape engineering strategy, supplier relationships, and long-term product direction
