Full Job Description
Lead Editor
Quantico, VA

Evaluate combined, joint, multi-service, and service specific concepts in order to analyze, validate, modify, edit or develop to support new document developments. Review new systems, concepts, organizations, equipment, and personnel in support of maneuver missions and other activities in support of JEDD. Reports to the Project Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Edit book manuscripts accepted for publication to scholarly academic standards, focusing on both content and style.


  • Coordinate corrections with authors and assist in selecting photographs, charts, maps, and other illustrations.


  • Proofread and supervise the indexing of the final copy.


  • Provide feedback to manuscript editors and suggest development/training opportunities


EDUCATION

  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university in one of the following academic fields: Business Administration or Management Science or a related field is preferred.


  • High School degree and 10 years' experience of demonstrated success in the Experience section is an acceptable alternative.


EXPERIENCE

  • Demonstrated success in four (4) or more of the following areas:


  • Expertise with the joint or Service doctrine development and publishing processes


  • Expertise in managing production schedules via tracking tools and ensuring product quality according to set standards for order, clarity, conciseness style, and terminology.


  • Expertise in content management.


  • Certified in the DoD Public Web's (DoDPW) proprietary American Forces Public Information Management System (AFPIMS) content management system.


  • Demonstrated communication, effective leadership, and interpersonal skills.


  • Extensive knowledge and ability to successfully direct, manage and coordinate editorial/publishing initiatives and organizational performance management.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills. Able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English. Able to design and write clear communications and present training programs.


  • Excellent organizational, planning, problem-solving, prioritization, and interpersonal skills.


  • Excellent computer skills required. Proficient in the entire suite of MS Office and able to quickly learn additional systems.


WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Required to sit or stand for extended periods of time and maintain focus.


SPECIAL POSITION NOTATIONS

  • Occasional travel CONUS/OCONUS may be required.


  • Qualification as an authorized company driver is required. All authorized company drivers must have a valid driver's license, current automobile insurance, and a driving record that is acceptable to the company's auto insurance provider.


SECURITY CLEARANCE

  • Secret clearance or higher required for this position.
