Now Brewing - lead digital designer #tobeapartnerThis critical role will be part of the Partner Experience Design team, responsible for designing and enhancing digital experiences used by Starbucks partners across stores and support organizations. The team collaborates closely with product managers, engineers, and business stakeholders to identify partner needs, define experience strategies, and deliver intuitive, scalable solutions. In addition, the team serves as a strategic partner throughout the product development lifecycle, ensuring partner-facing applications are human-centered, operationally effective, and aligned to both business and technology objectives.
As a lead digital designer, you will...
- Define the core elements of the Starbucks Retail Design System, specifying UX, visual, interaction and motion elements as well as documenting behaviors and usage guidelines.
- Cultivate internal knowledge around the design system by serving as a subject matter expert to contributing teams who are building additions to the design system.
- Utilize collaborative leadership skills to facilitate the adoption of the design system and ensure the best outcome for stakeholders.
- Work within a product delivery team to understand the experience we are building for our partners. The result of this work will be used by every store partner in North America.
- Be comfortable thinking in terms of systems, connecting and making relationships across multiple teams and experiences.
We'd love to hear from people with:
- 5+ years experience of UX design for digital products
- 3+ years experience designing products using a design system
- 1+ years experience overseeing the development or maintenance of a design system
- Meticulous attention to detail
- Self-starter able to work in an agile environment with other disciplines in quick design loops
- Experience mentoring other designers and giving actionable design feedback
- Experience leading cross-team efforts and collaborating with engineering, design and product management.
- Experience designing for iOS
- Familiarity with relevant front-end technologies (HTML/CSS/Javascript) and their affordances and limitations
- Solid communication skills, written and verbal
- Experience with design languages and human interface guidelines and are familiar with frameworks, components and patterns -- ideally as both a designer and system creator.
- Used to dealing with ambiguity and love solving ambitious problems in an agile, iterative manner.
- Strong knowledge of interaction and visual design as well as familiarity with information architecture.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and have experience aligning teams and stakeholders by persuasion and influence.

*If you are working in CA, CO, IL, LA, ME, MA, NE, ND or RI, you will accrue vacation up to a maximum of 120 hours (190 in CA) for roles below director and 200 hours (316 in CA) for roles at director or above. For roles in other states, you will be granted vacation time starting at 120 hours annually for roles below director and 200 hours annually for roles director and above.
The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. At Starbucks, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
