Job Description:

Job Summary:
Lead the definition of Asset Characterization for the Remote Services space. Serve as the senior technical authority responsible for enterprise architecture, data modeling, and data solution design across Remote Flash, Remote Troubleshoot, and Upgrades in VisionLink. Collaborate with and support the Remote Services teams and their data needs, ensuring the asset characterization data model and architecture align with how Remote Services consumes, processes, and acts on asset data.

What You Will Do:
  • Lead and own the end-to-end definition of Asset Characterization, establishing what characteristics are necessary for full and complete Remote Service capability
  • Perform enterprise architecture and data solution design for the Asset Characterization project, ensuring alignment with Caterpillar's broader digital and data strategies
  • Design and govern data models that define how asset characteristics are structured, stored, queried, and consumed to support Remote Services data needs
  • Gather and document data requirements for asset characterization, then collaborate with the Helios platform architecture and development teams to implement storage and serving within Helios as the single authoritative source
  • Define the integration architecture across Remote Flash, Remote Troubleshoot, and Upgrades in VisionLink, ensuring consistent characterization data drives all service workflows
  • Understand interface standards for consuming applications (SIS, VisionLink, Foresight, and others)
  • Define data migration requirements from existing local Remote Service databases and partner with the Helios team to plan and execute migration into Helios
  • Collaborate with Sys/SW development teams, electronics systems teams, and connectivity application teams to ensure asset discovery and query mechanisms align with the data architecture
  • Collaborate with and support the Remote Services teams (Remote Flash, Remote Troubleshoot, VisionLink Upgrades) to understand their data needs and ensure the asset characterization solution addresses their requirements
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the Asset Characterization project, the Remote Services teams, and the Helios platform team, ensuring requirements and data models are clearly communicated and supported
  • Provide architectural oversight and technical direction to System Architects, Database Developers, System Engineers, and Application Developers on the project team

  • Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
  • Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
  • Requirements Analysis: Knowledge of tools, methods, and techniques of requirement analysis; ability to elicit, analyze and record required business functionality and non-functionality requirements to ensure the success of a system or software development project.
  • Application Design, Architecture: Knowledge of basic activities and deliverables of application design; ability to utilize application design methodologies, tools and techniques to convert business requirements and logical models into a technical application design.
  • Data Architecture: Knowledge of processes, techniques and factors that affect data architecture; ability to design blueprints on how to integrate data resources for business processes and functional support.
  • Platform Architecture: Knowledge of technologies and methods to design processing mechanisms and roadmaps to execute business application systems; ability to design these roadmaps and deploy supportive interfaces for end-users to access related systems, in accordance with standards and processes.


Consideration for Top Candidates:
  • Extensive experience in enterprise architecture, data architecture, and solution design at scale
  • Deep knowledge of data modeling, database design, and data integration patterns
  • Experience with IoT/connected asset platforms, telematics, or similar domains
  • Familiarity with Remote Service, Over-The-Air (OTA), or fleet management systems preferred
  • Strong ability to translate business requirements into technical architecture and data strategy
  • Lead cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder communication skills
  • Experience leading architecture for multi-team, multi-year platform initiatives

  • This position requires the candidate to work full-time at the Mossville, IL office.

Summary Pay Range:

$128,470.00 - $208,770.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
