Full Job Description
The Lead Developer provides technical leadership for the design, development, testing, and maintenance of the Merge Universal Viewer (MUV), a web-based diagnostic imaging platform. Working under minimal supervision as part of an Agile team, this individual independently delivers complex, cross-cutting imaging workflows, visualization capabilities, and interoperability features, with work reviewed upon completion rather than directed, while ensuring high levels of quality, performance, and reliability. The successful candidate will bring wide-ranging experience across multiple large, complex systems, set technical direction in partnership with Architecture, review the work of other developers, mentor the team, and drive continuous improvement in engineering practices and product quality.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and maintenance of major software components and subsystems within MUV.

  • Provide creative and effective solutions to complex issues where the situation or data requires in-depth evaluation of variable factors.

  • Lead technical design reviews and code reviews, and review the work of other developers.

  • Investigate and resolve software defects and performance issues, including escalated customer and production issues.

  • Lead the development of advanced imaging and visualization capabilities.

  • Collaborate with Product Management, Regulatory Affairs, Support, and Architecture teams to ensure solutions meet business, customer, and regulatory requirements.

  • Mentor junior and senior developers and share technical knowledge across the team.

  • Assign work to contractors and track progress to completion.

Required Skills & Experience

Medical Imaging

  • Extensive experience developing medical imaging software.

  • Strong working knowledge of DICOM standards and imaging workflows.

  • Strong familiarity with PACS and enterprise imaging environments.

Software Development

  • Extensive web development experience, including ownership of significant subsystem design.

  • Strong JavaScript and/or TypeScript, Angular, and C# and .NET development experience desired.

  • Equivalent depth in Java and comparable web frameworks will be considered in place of the languages and frameworks above.

  • Strong problem-solving, debugging, and analytical skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to network with key contacts outside of own area of expertise.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with diagnostic imaging viewers or healthcare applications.

  • Experience with cloud technologies and modern web architectures.

  • Familiarity with healthcare interoperability standards such as HL7 or FHIR.

  • Experience working in regulated software environments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
