Lead Design and Analysis Engineer (Communication / Network Systems Design)

We are seeking a highly skilled LeadDesign and Analysis Engineer specializing in Storage and Data Management with expertise in storage technologies, networking, and server configuration across both hardware and software domains.  The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Windows and Linux environments and will play a critical role in architecting and implementing edge computing and storage solutions within a globally distributed, secure VPN infrastructure.  This role supports a multi-site centralized compute and storage hub, enabling advanced aircraft data analytics.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite at the Long Beach, CA facility.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Architect, deploy, and maintain edge computing and storage infrastructure across more than 20 global edge sites.

  • Design and implement secure VPN connectivity linking edge sites to a centralized multi-site compute and storage hub.

  • Manage and optimize storage technologies, including SAN, NAS, and other relevant storage solutions.

  • Configure and maintain networking and server hardware and software in both Windows and Linux environments.

  • Collaborate with and direct cross-functional and geographically dispersed teams to ensure consistent implementation and maintenance of edge sites.

  • Oversee the management of over 10TB of binary data generated annually per site, totaling approximately 200TB of raw binary data across all sites.

  • Support the integration and operation of locally developed software tools used for aircraft data analytics.

  • Develop and maintain automation scripts and tools using Python and PowerShell to streamline deployment, monitoring, and maintenance tasks.

  • Identify opportunities to improve business processes, advance technical capabilities, and reduce required chargeable hours.

  • Develop and present business proposals based on identified opportunities to drive continuous improvement and operational efficiency.

  • Develop acquisition and spending plans to support infrastructure growth, maintenance, and technology upgrades.

  • Ensure data integrity, security, and availability across all storage and computing resources.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex storage, networking, and server issues.

  • Provide support outside of regular business hours as required to maintain system availability and performance.

  • Document architecture, configurations, and operational procedures.

This position requires the ability to obtain an active U.S. Security Clearance.  An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Computer Information Systems, or closely related field, or equivalent experience.

  • 10+ years’ experience developing, documenting and maintaining architecture, requirements, algorithms, interfaces and designs for software systems.

  • 5+ years’ experience with data center infrastructure and technologies including network and transport services, server clusters and virtualization, and storage.

  • 5+ years’ experience in deploying and maintaining VPN technologies (e.g., IPsec, SSL VPN, Azure ExpressRoute).

  • 5+ years of experience with performing Windows 7 or higher, Windows Server 2012 or higher, or Linux (Oracle or Red Hat) 6 or higher system administration to include installation, configuration, and troubleshooting. Willingness and ability to provide support outside of normal business hours as needed.

  • Willing to work flexible hours, overtime and occasional weekends when necessary.

  • 5+ years of experience with light scripting (e.g., Python, PowerShell, Bash) to automate routine tasks, data flows between systems, and improve system reliability.

  • General experience with distributed system concepts, high availability, replication, IIoT, edge computing, database.

  • 3+ years’ experience with the airline/aerospace industry or relevant industrial sector companies utilizing data analytics.

  • Will have strong communication skills, strong problem-solving skills and strong drive for process improvement.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Certifications related to storage (e.g., SNIA, NetApp, EMC) or networking (e.g., CCNA, CompTIA Network+).

  • Experience with scripting or automation tools beyond Python and PowerShell.

  • Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices in distributed environments.

  • Demonstrated ability to identify process improvements and develop business proposals to support them.

  • Ability to lead and coordinate multiple teams across different locations.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
