Full Job Description
Become a part of our caring community
At Humana, we are committed to improving health outcomes by harnessing data to inform strategy and guide decision-making. Our analytics team supporting HEDIS Stars measures and Population Health is looking for a Lead Data Scientist to focus on In-home programs and initiatives. This role is ideal for someone with strong analytical curiosity who is energized by exploring complex data, uncovering insights, and building strategies that support measurable healthcare outcomes. The Lead Data Scientist will support Humana's In-Home Programs by developing advanced analytics solutions that help improve member engagement, close gaps in care, and support Stars performance.
This is a remote work opportunity; however, the role will align to Eastern Standard Time business hours.

The Lead Data Scientist uses mathematics, statistics, predictive modeling, business analysis, and technology to transform large volumes of complex healthcare data into actionable analytic solutions. In this role, you will support healthcare operations with an ability to move forward even when complete information is not available. You will do this by building member-level predictive models, developing segmentation strategies, forecasting eligibility volumes, modeling care gap closures, and evaluating the impact of in-home initiatives on Stars performance. You will partner closely with Stars business leaders, Population Health stakeholders, and analytics teammates to connect In-Home Program strategies with broader Stars measure priorities.

Key Responsibilities

You will manage data science solutions from end to end, including business problem definition, data exploration, model development, insight generation, and presentation to senior leadership. Responsibilities include the following:
  • Develop forecasts to project member eligibility, program volumes, and operational capacity needs.
  • Identify and evaluate leading indicators that signal future performance, risks, or opportunities.
  • Assist in developing benchmarks, targets, and goals to support program planning and performance management.
  • Measure program effectiveness and quantify business impact.
  • Create segmentation models to support targeted outreach, intervention planning, and member-level prioritization.
  • Build and deploy machine learning models in a cloud-based environment using tools such as Python, PySpark, and SQL.
  • Model care gap closure opportunities and assess potential impact on HEDIS Stars measures.
  • Translate complex data, modeling approaches, and analytic findings into clear insights for non-technical leaders and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with business partners, data science peers, technology teams, and operational stakeholders to deliver scalable analytic solutions.
