Role description:

Arcadis is seeking a Project Environmental Scientist/Geoscientist to support our Resilience Environment team in the U.S. This position will require a background in soil and groundwater contaminant characterization and remediation with a specialization in the application of statistical tools.

This position plays a critical role in supporting environmental investigation and remediation projects by providing advanced statistical understanding and technical leadership for soil, sediment, groundwater, and surface water characterization programs. The successful candidate will serve as a practitioner in environmental statistics, working closely with multidisciplinary project teams to develop and implement statistically defensible approaches that support background characterization, site investigation, risk assessment, compliance monitoring, remedial decision-making, and long-term monitoring programs. The position requires a strong understanding of environmental data analysis, hydrogeology, contaminant fate and transport, and regulatory guidance, with particular emphasis on the application of statistical methods to complex environmental datasets.

Role Accountabilities:

• Review conceptual site models, regulatory requirements, and environmental datasets to develop statistically defensible strategies for site characterization, remediation, and monitoring programs
• Work as part of a team in the planning and execution of statistical analyses for soil, groundwater, sediment, and surface water investigations, ensuring methods are appropriate for project objectives and available data
• Interpret analytical and statistical results in the context of site-specific conditions, contaminant behavior, and regulatory requirements based on a fundamental understanding of relevant chemical, hydrogeological, and other environmental processes
• Contribute to and direct preparation of technical memoranda, monitoring reports, regulatory submittals, and other project deliverables that clearly communicate methods, findings, and conclusions
• Present statistical approaches, results, and recommendations to project teams and other internal stakeholders
• Provide technical responses to client and regulator comments and support resolution of data-related questions and challenges
• Serve as a focused practitioner in environmental statistics, providing technical guidance to multidisciplinary project teams
• Travel potentially up to 20% based on project, client, and business needs

Key skills:

• Working knowledge of environmental statistical methods, including trend analysis, background characterization, confidence intervals, and hypothesis testing
• Experience applying statistical approaches to soil and groundwater investigation, monitoring, and remediation projects
• Familiarity with the EPA's Statistical Analysis of Groundwater Monitoring Data at RCRA Facilities Unified Guidance (2009)
• Ability to analyze and interpret environmental datasets and communicate findings in a clear and defensible manner
• Strong technical writing skills, including preparation of reports, memoranda, and regulatory deliverables
• Willingness and ability to take responsibility for performance and quality and drive progress on individual tasks with appropriate delegation of subtasks
• Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with project teams, clients, and regulatory agencies
• Ability to manage multiple assignments while maintaining attention to detail and data quality
• Proficiency with statistical and data analysis tools such as R, Python, ProUCL, VSP, Sanitas, or similar software

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science degree in Statistics or Mathematics, or a degree in Environmental Science, Geological Engineering, Geoscience, or a related discipline with a strong emphasis on statistics.
• Comparative statistics work experience
• 5+ years of applicable experience

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master of Science degree

We offer nine paid holidays and 15 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $82,080 - $123,120.

Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
