Role Definition

We have an exciting opportunity for a Lead Business Intelligence Analyst as part of the Power & Energy Cost COE team within Procurement! This position will solve challenging business visualization problems through creativity and driving structure; it offers both autonomy and a chance to make an immediate impact.

You will have the opportunity to design and build quantitative methods such as business simulations, data mining, modeling, and advanced statistical techniques to drive strategic cost reduction efforts. The Lead Business Intelligence Analyst contributes to this mission by acting as the leader of analytics project teams tasked with solving problems of medium to high complexity.

What You Will Do:
  • Develop quantitative approaches, such as business simulations, data mining, modeling, and advanced statistical analysis, to support strategic cost reduction initiatives, including:
    • Inventory, material, and new product introduction costs, along with trend analysis.
    • Suppliers spend and product attributes
    • Commodity and index-based inflationary costs
    • Freight and logistics costs
    • Product demand and variability levels
  • Coach and mentor junior scientists in developing, validating, and applying statistical models, as well as implementing digital solutions
  • Explore and apply new methods and digital technologies to enhance customer outcomes

  • Advocates better communication of data requirements in business data analysis processes to increase the efficiency of data analysis.

  • Establishes working processes for business data analysis and supervises team progress.
  • Monitors industry and vendor trends and directions of business data analysis technologies.

Requirements Analysis: Knowledge of tools, methods, and techniques of requirement analysis; ability to elicit, analyze and record required business functionality and non-functionality requirements to ensure the success of a system or software development project.

Level Extensive Experience:
  • Plays an active or leading role in recording and storing requirement documents in various forms.
  • Ensures the successful completion of all major activities, tasks and deliverables pertaining to the requirement analysis stage.
  • Supervises the advanced use of requirements analysis tools and services, including prototyping and use cases.
  • Produces detailed functional and information requirements models and documentation.
  • Trains others on requirements walkthroughs and quality reviews.
  • Utilizes automated diagramming tools to ensure traceability of requirements.


What Sets You Apart:
  • Project management portfolio experience from effective requirements gathering, risk management through visualizing insights
  • Working knowledge of two or more programming languages
  • Experience with data automation
  • Ability to build sound networks within the technical community to enable collaboration on technical solutions, obtain resources and cooperation needed, and removal of roadblocks ensuring the success of activities.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of employees and customers.
  • Experience or working knowledge with Snowflake platform.


Summary Pay Range:

$128,470.00 - $192,710.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
