Lead Applications Technologist, you will apply advanced scientific and technological expertise to solve complex water treatment and reuse challenges for our customers, with a particular focus on
PFAS mitigation strategies.
This role combines hands-on laboratory experience with applied process design expertise. You will lead and support laboratory, bench-scale, pilot-scale, and field studies; perform chemical and biological analyses; and use principles of engineering, chemistry, biology, statistics, and process modeling to develop innovative, practical, and cost-effective treatment solutions.
The successful candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams across Veolia, including Process Engineering, Commercial, Product Management, and Market Development.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and conduct treatability and feasibility studies in alignment with business goals and customer requirements.
- Develop project proposals, including technical protocols, scope, budgets, and schedules, in collaboration with cross-functional project teams.
- Design, set up, operate, and troubleshoot laboratory, bench-scale, and pilot-scale treatment systems.
- Support field studies, including the development and execution of sampling and testing programs.
- Apply engineering, chemistry, biology, statistical analysis, and process modeling principles to evaluate treatment processes and develop innovative solutions.
- Support strategic growth initiatives and contribute ideas to improve existing treatment technologies or develop new concepts.
- Perform physical, chemical, and biological analyses of water and wastewater samples in accordance with established procedures and documented requirements.
- Document, analyze, interpret, and troubleshoot experimental and process data.
- Ensure the quality, accuracy, integrity, and timely delivery of project data.
- Prepare and present technical reports, project updates, and presentations for internal and external audiences, including conferences and customer meetings.
- Operate, maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot laboratory and analytical instrumentation.
- Maintain laboratory operations in accordance with chemical hygiene plans, environmental health and safety requirements, and quality assurance programs.
- Collaborate effectively with commercial, engineering, technical, and market development teams.
Qualifications- PhD in Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or a related discipline preferred; equivalent relevant education and experience will be considered.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience developing treatment processes and process designs for water and wastewater applications.
- Experience operating laboratory, bench-scale, pilot-scale, or demonstration-scale treatment systems.
- Experience with analytical characterization of water and wastewater samples.
- Demonstrated expertise in the development or application of physicochemical treatment processes for municipal and/or industrial water and wastewater treatment.
- Working knowledge of one or more of the following treatment areas:
- Thermal treatment
- Advanced oxidation processes (AOP)
- Membrane treatment
- Biological treatment
- Strong interest in or experience with PFAS treatment and mitigation strategies.
- Three or more years of experience supporting industrial and/or municipal water treatment applications is preferred.
- Strong technical writing, data analysis, presentation, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with Google Workspace.

- Compensation is tied to the market for similarly bench-marked roles. The range is not an absolute, but a guide, and offers will be based on the individual candidate's knowledge, skills, experience and market conditions, as well as internal peer equity. Depending upon all the preceding considerations for the final selected individual candidate, the offer may be lower or higher than the stated range: $88,000 - $101,000 USD.
