Job Purpose

Substation Engineering & Design Department designs, engineers and supports new and existing distribution and transmission substations throughout National Grid's Upstate New York territory which vary in voltage from 4160V to 345kV. This role requires a multidisciplinary skill set, combining technical understanding, workflow coordination, and strong analytical abilities.

The ideal candidate will play a key role in managing work orders and supporting material ordering for Capital projects. The position involves utilizing multiple systems and processes - including Power Plan, SAP and Procure to Pay.

Key Accountabilities

  • Responsible for initiating and closeout work orders and preparing an accurate work order summary to record all assets installed and removed where work was performed at substations and telecom sites.
  • Responsible for quarterly reviews of inactive work orders.
  • Responsible for the oversight of the substation material or services, procure to pay process for NY, including ensuring that materials or services are ordered correctly and timely deliveries are coordinated with the proper field personnel and prompt confirmations are entered into the system upon receipt of delivery.
  • Act as liaison between SEDNY, Vendors, Operations, Plant Accounting, Project Management, Engineering and other related groups to help drive efficiencies and serve as the main point of contact for these groups for any questions that arise concerning work orders or ordering of materials.
  • Develop and assist coordinating department training when required.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business, engineering or similar discipline with a minimum of 5 years relevant work experience or an Associate's degree in finance, accounting, business, engineering or similar discipline with a minimum of 8 years relevant work experience.
  • Knowledge of the plant accounting work order life cycle.
  • Knowledge of procure to pay process.
  • Knowledge of project management techniques and methods.
  • Proficient in relevant software (i.e. Excel, Word, SAP, Powerplan, Cascade) and query tools (i.e. SAP, Business Objects).
  • Proven analytical skills and the ability to work independently or in groups to achieve objectives.
  • Ability to research, compile, coordinate, schedule, review, document, organize and verify data and conduct independent analysis to identify inconsistencies.
  • Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively both internally and externally to the organization.
  • Knowledge of engineering materials used for construction and engineering drawings is desired.

Salary

$114,000 - $133,000 a year
