Job Summary

Assists prosecutors in trial preparations and legal research as directed; performs other duties as assigned.

The hiring salary for this position is $59,113 - $101,691; full salary range for this position is $59,113 - $101,691
Essential Functions

  1. Researches legal issues as directed;
  2. Analyzes case files and legal research regarding pending criminal cases;
  3. Assists prosecutors and prosecution team as requested;
  4. Aids in the preparation of criminal cases;
  5. Performs legal research;
  6. Reviews case files ensuring compliance with Maryland laws and Maryland Rules;
  7. Communicates with prosecutors and SAO support staff;
  8. Reviews case law, statutes, and pending legislation;
  9. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  1. Ability to gain working knowledge of St. Mary's County Government policies and procedures;
  2. Ability to act as a representative of St. Mary's County Government to the public;
  3. Knowledge of the law and the preparation of legal documents and materials;
  4. Ability to effectively communicate with other staff, judges, attorneys, and members of the public;
  5. Ability to use available resources to research information;
  6. Ability to keep accurate records;
  7. Ability to operate relevant computer systems, including hardware and software, and simple office machines;
  8. Excellent communications and analytical skills.

Education and Experience

  1. Bachelor's degree;
  2. Juris Doctorate Degree; or currently enrolled in an accredited Law School;
  3. Or equivalent technical training, education, and/or experience.

Physical and Environmental Conditions:
Work requires no unusual demand for physical effort.

Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meetings and training rooms.
