About this roleWe are looking for a Law and Motion Associate with 2+ years of experience to join Manning Kass's Law and Motion and Appeals Team - the backbone of the firm that provides written advocacy across all 35 practice areas. This is an opportunity for a skilled legal writer who wants to sharpen their substantive law expertise while supporting high-impact litigation strategies for a growing national defense firm.
What will you be doing?- Drafting pretrial motions and oppositions, including pleading-related, discovery, and dispositive motions across multiple practice areas
- Preparing trial documents including motions in limine, trial briefs, pocket briefs, and jury instructions
- Conducting legal research and providing strategic recommendations to litigation attorneys on complex legal issues
- Drafting post-trial motions, including motions for new trial and motions for attorney's fees
- Opportunity to handle appellate cases and conduct appellate arguments alongside experienced appellate practitioners
Key Requirements- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and active California State Bar membership in good standing
- At least 2 years of legal experience with strong law and motion or legal writing background
- Exceptional research and writing abilities with strong analytical skills - writing sample required
- Knowledge of substantive law across litigation practice areas (premises liability, complex litigation, governmental entity, etc.)
- Ability to meet billable hour requirement of 1,920 hours per year
