JOB DESCRIPTION

The Municipality of Princeton's Engineering Department is seeking an innovative Professional Engineer to join our nonunion full-service team as Land Use Engineer / Assistant Zoning Officer. The ideal candidate shall have extensive site design and construction experience, technical stormwater management design experience, and exemplary written and oral communication skills, to provide technical support, advice, and assistance to various boards and commissions, developers, builders, and the general public. The Land Use Engineer serves in an advisory role for the Planning Board, Zoning Board of Adjustment, Environmental Commission, and the Flood and Storm Water Commission. The Land Use Engineer also serves as the municipality's Floodplain Manager.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS PERFORMED
  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations
  • Review stormwater management plans and specifications
  • Attend workday and evening board meetings to provide expert testimony
  • Review and approve administrative waivers
  • Administer contracts and manage consultants for the various Board professionals
  • Update Ordinances
  • Prepare construction cost estimates for development projects to determine performance guarantees and inspection fees
  • Perform inspections of residential and commercial developments during construction for certificate of occupancy requests, and bond reduction
  • Release requests to ensure construction is in accordance with the approved plans
  • Administer and track escrow and inspection account expenditures
  • Assume the role of Assistant Zoning Officer as needed
  • Resolve resident complaints during the construction of development projects
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and duties effectively
  • Ability to prioritize and work within time constraints
  • Possess exemplary written and oral communication skills
  • Working knowledge of stormwater hydrology and hydraulic calculations
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with officials as well as the public
  • Office Suite (MS suite of options - PowerPoint, Excel, Word)
  • Strong organizational, project management, and time management skills and experience
  • Proactive self-starter with integrity, a strong work ethic, and sound judgment
  • A positive attitude and commitment to working as a team player in a dynamic and fast-paced environment

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
  • New Jersey Professional Engineers License
  • Minimum of five (5) years of engineering experience in municipal land use, site development, and stormwater management
  • Floodplain Manager certification desirable
  • Must satisfy employer paid physical, drug screen and criminal background check
  • NJ residency required by N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70)
  • Pursuant to Federal Law, proof of US Citizenship or immigration status will be required upon hire
