Scope / Overview
The Land Analyst I supports the Land Asset Team by researching, analyzing, and maintaining oil and gas lease and contract information that supports exploration and production activities. This role is responsible for ownership analysis, lease administration, report generation, and responding to inquiries from mineral owners while ensuring the integrity of land records and contractual obligations. The position works closely with internal business groups and external stakeholders to support land operations across producing assets.
Key Responsibilities
  • Assist Land Asset Teams with the acquisition, maintenance, and administration of oil & gas leases and E&P contracts.
  • Research lease agreements, contracts, ownership records, and title information.
  • Establish ownership for new wells, recompletions, and related development projects.
  • Calculate and verify Working Interest (WI) and Net Revenue Interest (NRI).
  • Determine ownership interests for federal units and participating area expansions.
  • Respond to inquiries from mineral owners regarding ownership, leases, and contractual matters.
  • Generate reports using Tobin Land Suite and related land management systems.
  • Create Business Objects reports supporting lease administration and critical lease tracking.
  • Gather, analyze, and validate data for quarterly lease obligation and contract obligation reporting.
  • Maintain accurate land records and ensure data integrity across multiple systems.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with:
    • Government agencies
    • Mineral owners
    • Lessors
    • Business partners
    • Internal Legal, Accounting, Tax, Production, and Audit teams
Required Qualifications
  • 0-3 years of land administration, land analyst, or oil & gas support experience.
  • Basic understanding of oil & gas leases, contracts, and mineral ownership.
  • Strong analytical and research skills.
  • Excellent organizational and documentation abilities.
  • Ability to interpret legal descriptions and ownership information.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments while maintaining accuracy.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Tobin Land Suite or similar land management software.
  • Experience using Business Objects reporting.
  • Exposure to ownership calculations, WI/NRI determination, or lease administration.
  • Oil & gas industry internship or prior land administration experience.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Energy Management, Petroleum Land Management, Business, Finance, or a related field preferred.
Ideal Candidate
The strongest candidates will have internship or early-career experience in oil & gas land administration, be comfortable researching leases and ownership records, possess strong Excel and reporting skills, and demonstrate the attention to detail required for ownership analysis, lease maintenance, and contract administration in an upstream operating environment.
