Overview

The Laboratory Manager plays a vital role in the operation of the laboratory under the direction and guidance of the Regional Director of Operations. The laboratory manager takes responsibility for all aspects of the lab including instruments, quality, personnel and supplies needed to ensure the lab runs smoothly.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, assigns, and directs workflow in the laboratory.
  • Maintains all necessary state and federal licenses including CAP accreditation and ensures the lab remains inspection ready.
  • Mentors and supports departmental supervisors in their responsibilities and functions, ensuring they receive training in supervisory skill development.
  • Identifies and implements training programs as necessary.
  • Coordinates and monitors the quality assurance programs.
  • Ensures quality control and compliance procedures are followed and QC reports are up to date. Oversee plans and preparations for inspections.
  • Oversees staffing of all laboratory personnel. Effectively maintains quality staffing by interviewing, hiring, training and providing personnel development through performance evaluation and performance management.
  • Proactively capacity plans for staff, equipment, and facilities. Submits appropriate business justifications along with supporting documentation.
  • Reviews test performance, drives process and project management, prepares and submits required reports to meet established deadlines and maintain established service levels.
  • Contributes to the development of the annual budget and manages department costs and resources.
  • Resolves problems through interaction with care centers and other stakeholders through phone calls or other means of effective communication.

Qualifications

  • Candidate must have experience with molecular microbiology, cytology, and/or histology ; preferably in Women's Health.
  • Bachelor's Degree with emphasis in medical technology, chemical or biological science.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of laboratory experience to include at least 5+ years of experience in managing an anatomic and clinical pathology laboratory that included molecular microbiology.
  • Current ASCP certification as a Medical Technologist, Laboratory Scientist, Cytotechnologist, Histotechnologist or equivalent. Molecular Biology (MB) certification by ASCP is not required but would be highly desirable.
  • The ability to organize and manage multiple priorities/projects.
  • Strong customer orientation and ability to foster long term customer relationships.
  • Strong quality, financial and data analytics acumen needed to support decision making processes.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
