We are seeking a versatile, hands-on Labor & Employment Counsel to join our growing Legal team at this pivotal moment in our journey. As a late-stage startup, Form Energy is in a phase of rapid, high-impact scaling, and we need a practical, business-minded lawyer who is energized by the thrill of our mission-driven work. This is a rare opportunity to operate at the heart of a fast-paced environment where your contributions directly shape our trajectory and help power a renewable future.

This is a hybrid role, which will require working onsite from our factory in Weirton, WV 3 days per week.

Relocation assistance is available.

What you'll do:
  • Employment Law: Serve as a key legal advisor for our People Operations and Talent and executive teams. You will ensure compliance with a wide range of employment-related laws, policies, and regulations, including hiring, employee benefits, leave and accommodations, workers compensation and wage-and-hour compliance.
  • Policy Development: Partner with People Operations to draft and administer clear, scalable policies that support our business as we continue to grow and shift toward manufacturing.
  • Investigations & Employee Relations: Conduct and oversee internal investigations regarding workplace concerns, partnering with leadership and outside counsel as needed to ensure fair, prompt, and documented resolutions.
  • Broad-Scope Support: In keeping with our fast-moving startup environment, you will assist with general commercial and operational legal matters as they arise, including supporting our Factory Operations team with contract review and employment (NDAs, master service agreements, and vendor agreements). Think nimble generalist.
  • Outside Counsel Management: Manage and direct outside counsel efficiently on specific litigation or complex employment matters.
  • Pragmatic Problem Solving: Identify and evaluate legal risks and provide actionable guidance that balances compliance with the practical realities of a scaling business.
  • Leadership: As we scale our manufacturing workforce, you will help build out our employment law function from the ground up-training managers on best practices, shaping our approach to workforce compliance as the team grows.
  • Hybrid role.
  • Travel expectations 10-15%.

What you'll bring:
  • Experience: A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, including a mix of top-tier law firm training and/or in-house experience.
  • Legal Expertise: Deep bench knowledge of US employment law and demonstrated experience in contract drafting and negotiation.
  • Education: JD from an accredited law school and active membership in at least one state Bar.
  • Startup Mindset: Ability to handle ambiguity, prioritize effectively, and switch contexts between core L&E work and general commercial support.
  • Communication: Exceptional written and oral communication skills; ability to distill complex legal risks into clear, plain-language advice for business stakeholders.
  • Integrity & Judgment: Unmatched work ethic, sound business judgment, and a team-first attitude that prioritizes collaborative problem solving.
  • Preferred: Prior experience in an in-house legal department, DOE/Government contracting, and/or traditional labor relations are strong pluses.

Where you'll work:

This role is based at Form Factory 1 in Weirton, WV-an easy commute from the city of Pittsburgh, PA. This 550,000-square-foot facility is our hub for high-volume battery production and a leader in the new era of American energy manufacturing. Relocation assistance is available.
