Position Title Lab Coordinator
Position Summary The School of Health and Wellness is currently seeking a permanent Lab Coordinator to join our team!
The Lab Coordinator is responsible for the coordination and oversight of the Health and Wellness labs. The incumbent will assess and provide for meeting program and student needs and oversee the operation of lab supplies to ensure safe and effective use of the lab equipment. This position will have responsibilities to supervise the day-to-day operations of lab staff and ensure policy and program compliance.
Position Responsibilities Lab Operations- Coordinates operations within the Health and Wellness labs
- Performs data analysis to evaluate learning and satisfaction with the provision of services
- Continuously updates and refines lab experiences based on identified needs
- Serves as a resource for faculty utilizing lab activities
- Arranges for orientation of instructors in lab procedures, location and use of materials, and operation of equipment
- Works closely with polytechnic staff to appropriately integrate lab operations, obtain maximum utilization for the most efficient expenditure
- Develops, implements, updates, and monitors lab policies, procedures, use, and operation
- Monitors and schedules use, signing out, and movement of lab equipment
- Creates and maintains a respectful and professional working environment, incorporating active learning, reflective thinking, and a confidential debriefing process
- Assists students periodically who require assistance and utilizes methods that promote student development in critical thinking, problem-solving, decision making, clinical competency, and life-long learning.
Inventory and Safety- Orders supplies and equipment for all school labs in compliance with procurement policies and practices
- Maintains the lab inventory, ensuring safe and proper storage
- Ensures the safe storage and disposal of hazardous materials
- Monitors and assures appropriate standards of lab cleanliness, provides for equipment maintenance, repair, and replacement
- Formulates budget recommendations in collaboration with leadership team
- Ensures a safe and healthy work environment, complies with polytechnic health and safety policies, practices, and programs in keeping with occupational health & safety legislation and regulation.
Staff Leadership- Directs the day-to-day operations of Lab Attendants, coordinating schedules and duties for efficient and effective delivery of service
- Conducts performance enhancement process in accordance with standard practice and collective agreements; escalates issues or concerns to Associate Dean/Operations Manager
- Plans, organizes, and coordinates formal and informal orientation and training of employees under direct supervision
- Participates in the recruitment and hiring of direct reports
- Encourages staff to participate in growth opportunities and professional development opportunities as they arise
- Approves, monitors, and reports vacation and other absences for all staff under the direct supervision; arrange coverage for all vacation and long-term absences as required
Required Qualifications - Four (4) year undergraduate degree, or three (3) year undergraduate degree plus one full additional year of university in a related program representing four years of study or equivalent to a healthcare related field.
- OHS, WHMIS, First Aid /CPR
- Over Three years up to 5 Years experience in a similar role
- Healthcare education and training
- Ability to use critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Excellent computer skills specifically in Microsoft Office 365 products
- Demonstrated troubleshooting of technical difficulties with equipment
- Highly developed interpersonal skills with ability to work with diverse groups of people
- Supervisory experience
Preferred Qualifications - Healthcare professional license Preferred (RN, LPN, MLT)
Salary or Hourly? Salary
Salary $74,056 - $86,635
