Position Overview
The Kiewit Power Engineering Group is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Pipe Stress Engineer to join our growing engineering team. In this role, you will support the design and analysis of complex piping systems for major power, industrial, and water/wastewater projects across North America. The ideal candidate will have experience performing pipe stress analysis, developing pipe support designs, and collaborating across multidisciplinary engineering and construction teams to deliver safe, constructible, and efficient solutions.

Location
This position is based out of Calgary, Alberta.
Responsibilities
• Perform pipe stress and thermal flexibility analysis for critical piping systems using AutoPIPE to ensure compliance with ASME codes and project requirements.
• Analyze sustained, thermal, occasional, and hydrotest loading conditions for piping systems and equipment.
• Evaluate piping nozzle loads on turbines, pumps, compressors, tanks, exchangers, heaters, and other equipment.
• Select and design appropriate pipe supports including shoes, guides, rigid supports, spring hangers, snubbers, and struts.
• Prepare and maintain stress calculations, analysis models, support load data, and project documentation in accordance with company standards.
• Review piping isometrics, P&IDs, line lists, vendor drawings, and related engineering documents to ensure consistency with stress analysis and overall system design.
• Coordinate closely with piping designers, structural engineers, mechanical engineers, vendors, and construction teams to optimize pipe routing, support design, and constructability.
• Perform supplemental calculations using tools such as Excel, Mathcad, or NozzlePRO to verify localized stresses and non-standard configurations.
• Work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-discipline environment while managing multiple engineering tools, 3D models, spreadsheets, PDFs, and communication platforms concurrently.
• Support project execution by following established workflows, maintaining quality standards, and meeting project schedules.

Qualifications
• A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• A minimum of 2+ years of experience in power, industrial, oil & gas, or process plant design with a focus on pipe stress analysis and pipe support design.
• Registered as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or eligible for registration with APEGA is required.
• P. Eng designation is considered an asset.
• Experience using AutoPIPE for pipe stress analysis preferred; experience with CAESAR II is also considered an asset.
• Knowledge of applicable ASME piping codes and Canadian engineering standards related to piping systems and support design. B31.1 Power Piping code experience preferred.
• Natural gas Combined cycle power plant experience preferred.
• Strong understanding of piping system behavior under thermal, sustained, occasional, and dynamic loading conditions.
• Experience preparing or reviewing pipe support designs, nozzle load evaluations, and supplemental stress calculations.
• Proficiency with engineering and office software including AutoPIPE, Excel, Mathcad, Microsoft Office, Teams, and PDF/3D model review tools.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and critical thinking skills with attention to detail.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
• Ability to work successfully in a fast-paced, multi-disciplined engineering environment while managing multiple priorities and project deadlines.
