Role Summary

MetaPhase is looking for a Jr-Software Engineer, a sharp, motivated engineer who thrives at the intersection of customer mission needs, modern software engineering, and cloud-native delivery. As a Software Engineer, you will be forward deployed and work directly with customers and mission users to rapidly understand challenges, translate needs into working solutions, and deliver capabilities that can evolve with the mission. You will build across cloud infrastructure, application services, APIs, data, automation, and user experiences using modern engineering practices.

This is not a passive support role. You will engage customers, prototype and build solutions, deploy and operate production capabilities, and continuously refine them based on real-world feedback. You will use AI-assisted tools daily to accelerate development, testing, documentation, troubleshooting, analysis, and operational workflows, while applying human judgment, secure engineering practices, and automated quality checks. You will also explore and apply generative and agentic AI patterns where they can improve mission outcomes, engineering productivity, and user experience.

The environment may include AWS or Azure, cloud-native services, APIs, containers, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, modern web applications, data platforms, and automation frameworks. Experience with React, TypeScript, JavaScript, Python, PostgreSQL, GitHub Actions, Terraform, or similar technologies is valuable. You do not need to be an expert in every technology. You need to be capable, curious, customer-oriented, and willing to learn and adapt quickly.

What You Will Be Doing

• Work directly with customers and mission users to understand operational challenges, clarify needs, and translate them into practical technical solutions

• Rapidly prototype, build, test, and deploy working capabilities using cloud-native architectures, reusable components, APIs, automation, and modern development frameworks

• Design, develop, integrate, troubleshoot, and improve application functionality across front-end, back-end, data, API, and cloud service layers

• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, automated tests, observability, security controls, and deployment workflows that support frequent, reliable delivery

• Use AI-assisted tools daily to accelerate development, testing, documentation, troubleshooting, and operational workflows; apply generative and agentic AI thoughtfully with human review and quality controls

• Partner with customers throughout delivery, demonstrating working software early, incorporating feedback quickly, and refining solutions as mission needs evolve

• Participate in code reviews, pull requests, architecture discussions, technical discovery, and release coordination within a modern Git-based engineering workflow

What We Need From You (Required)

• 2 to 4 years of experience in software engineering, application development, cloud engineering, DevSecOps, platform engineering, or a related technical discipline

• Hands-on experience building, deploying, integrating, or supporting modern applications in a cloud environment

• Working knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure, including compute, networking, identity and access management, storage, monitoring, logging, and security fundamentals

• Experience with Git, GitHub, CI/CD, automated testing, and modern software development practices

• Ability to debug across application, API, database, cloud, and deployment layers; comfortable connecting technical issues to user and mission outcomes

• Genuine enthusiasm for generative AI, agentic AI, and AI-assisted software engineering, with curiosity about how these capabilities can improve the way teams design, build, test, and operate software

• Must be located in the Washington, DC metro area and available to work from MetaPhase headquarters in Reston, Virginia four days a week.

• U.S. Citizenship is required

What Sets You Apart (Preferred)

• Experience with AWS or Azure certifications, or active pursuit of one

• Experience with modern programming languages and frameworks such as Python, TypeScript, JavaScript, React, .NET, or similar technologies

• Familiarity with cloud-native architectures, containers, APIs, serverless services, infrastructure as code, DevSecOps, or SRE practices

• A GitHub profile, portfolio, personal project, or demo that shows you build, experiment, and ship real things

• Experience working directly with customers, product owners, mission users, or cross-functional teams to discover needs and shape technical solutions

• Experience applying generative AI, agentic workflows, AI coding assistants, or automated engineering tools in a software delivery environment

Work Location

• MetaPhase headquarters in Reston, Virginia and requires 4 days a week onsite in Reston.

Travel

• Less than 10%

Education Level

• Minimum bachelor's degree in related field; equivalent experience will be considered

Clearance Level

• Existing or eligibility to obtain a Public Trust and/or DHS suitability clearance

• U.S. Citizenship required (NO EXCEPTIONS)

Compensation

• Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range for this role in the U.S. is $75,000 - $100,000.
