Description
Altus Technology Solutions is seeking a Junior Manufacturing Engineer to support manufacturing process engineering activities at Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Division (NSWC IHD).
This position supports engineering and manufacturing operations associated with energetic materials production, process improvement initiatives, manufacturing optimization efforts, and facility modernization activities supporting national defense programs. The successful candidate will assist with process analysis, manufacturing system improvements, technical documentation, and production support efforts within complex manufacturing environments.
The Junior Manufacturing Engineer will work closely with engineering, manufacturing, quality, safety, and production teams to improve manufacturing processes, enhance operational efficiency, and support continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing operations.
This role is critical to supporting safe, efficient, and reliable manufacturing operations through engineering support, process optimization, and technical problem-solving.
Primary Responsibilities:
Support manufacturing process engineering activities associated with energetic materials production and manufacturing operations.
Assist with analysis, evaluation, and optimization of manufacturing processes to improve efficiency, quality, safety, and production performance.
Support process improvement initiatives and implementation of engineering solutions for manufacturing challenges.
Assist with development and maintenance of manufacturing procedures, technical documentation, and engineering reports.
Support engineering analysis of production systems, manufacturing equipment, and facility operations.
Participate in investigations of manufacturing issues and assist with identifying root causes and corrective actions.
Support implementation of quality control measures and process improvements.
Assist with collection, analysis, and interpretation of manufacturing and production data.
Support facility modernization initiatives and manufacturing system upgrades.
Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, maintenance, and quality personnel to support production objectives.
Assist with development and maintenance of technical data packages (TDPs), standard operating procedures (SOPs), and manufacturing documentation.
Participate in engineering reviews, process evaluations, and continuous improvement activities.
Support compliance with safety standards, quality requirements, and customer specifications.
Perform other duties as assigned to support operational and organizational objectives.
Qualifications:
Required:
Active U.S. DoD SECRET Security Clearance (Must have interim clearance before start date)
Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related engineering discipline
Minimum 1 year of relevant engineering experience
Knowledge of manufacturing processes, engineering principles, and process improvement methodologies
Ability to analyze technical data and identify process improvement opportunities
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering and manufacturing teams
Preferred:
Experience supporting manufacturing, industrial, or production environments
Experience supporting process improvement or continuous improvement initiatives
Experience supporting engineering analysis and manufacturing optimization efforts
Experience supporting energetics, explosives, ammunition, or defense-related manufacturing operations
Familiarity with technical data packages (TDPs), SOPs, and manufacturing documentation
Experience supporting Department of Defense programs or facilities
Experience working with manufacturing systems, production equipment, or industrial processes
