Job Description Summary
The FACTS/HVDC Field Service Engineer performs and leads field service activities related to the commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, retrofit, upgrade, and lifecycle support of FACTS and HVDC systems at customer sites. The role supports safe, reliable, and efficient operation of equipment by applying engineering knowledge, field service practices, and technical problem-solving skills.
This position works closely with customers, project teams, engineering, quality, and other service functions to execute field activities, resolve technical issues, and improve service performance.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities
  • Perform field service activities for FACTS/HVDC systems, including testing, commissioning, inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, outage support, retrofit, and upgrade execution.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues involving electrical systems, power electronics, converter equipment, control systems, protection systems, cooling systems, auxiliary systems, and plant or grid interfaces.
  • Execute preventive and corrective maintenance in accordance with approved procedures, technical manuals, quality requirements, and customer expectations.
  • Review and use technical documentation such as schematics, wiring diagrams, logic diagrams, drawings, test procedures, and maintenance instructions.
  • Prepare and complete field service reports, test records, punch lists, maintenance records, and technical findings accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate with customers and internal teams to communicate work status, technical issues, site constraints, and recommended actions.
  • Support or lead implementation of field modifications, retrofits, upgrades, and corrective actions for installed FACTS/HVDC equipment.
  • Contribute to or lead root cause analysis, lessons learned, and continuous improvement initiatives related to field issues, equipment performance, and service execution.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, health, safety, quality, and regulatory requirements during all field activities.
  • Collaborate with engineering, project management, supply chain, quality, and service teams to support technical issue resolution and successful site execution.


Minimum Qualifications

This role requires experience in Engineering/Technology and Service Engineering. Knowledge level is typically comparable to:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma with relevant experience)
  • 1+ years of related experience in field service, commissioning, maintenance, or troubleshooting of HVDC, FACTS, substations, power electronics, protection and control systems, or related utility/power transmission equipment


Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of electrical power systems and associated control, protection, and auxiliary systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, logic diagrams, and technical procedures.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively at customer sites and across cross-functional teams.
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively nearly 80% and support planned outages, emergency response, or urgent field events as required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and compliance.

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally, as required.
  • Ability to work at customer sites, including during outages, extended shifts, weekends, or emergency conditions, where required.
  • Ability to comply with customer site access requirements, training requirements, and applicable safety standards.
  • Valid work authorization and ability to obtain necessary travel documents, where required.

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $72,000.00 and $108,000.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set.

Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
