JOB DESCRIPTION

As a Research Associate for the, you will conduct economic research using proprietary big data within JPMorganChase, under the direction of a Research Director, to deliver high-quality, rigorous analysis and insights.This role is ideal for individuals seeking to leverage a strong background in economics or another quantitative discipline, with experience in statistics, data analysis, and computer programming. It is also well-suited for those seeking to enhance their research skills and gain insights into economic analysis within a leading financial institution. An entrepreneurial and proactive mindset, along with strong communication skills, will be key to your success in this role.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Work alongside the Institute9s research leaders, academic fellows, and internal thought-leaders to create cutting-edge analyses that add to both the public and academic discourse, using large data sets of de-identified banking records in combination with publicly available data.

  • Extract original insights from large panel data sets using big data programming languages on a public cloud platform and produce empirical insights and impactful visual analytics.

  • Gain and apply topic-specific knowledge in household finance and applied microeconomic topics.

  • Communicate analytical insights and be directly involved in the research process from ideation through final report editing.

  • Conduct literature reviews, edit and draft reports, and participate in a vibrant, collaborative research community.

Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills:

  • Bachelor9s degree in economics, public policy, statistics, or related field.

  • Experience working with big data sets.

  • Strong programming experience in a language commonly used in empirical research (e.g., Python, Stata, R, Scala, SQL, SAS, C++).

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and experience conveying complex ideas in a team setting.

  • Strong sense of intellectual curiosity and desire to be directly involved in the public-oriented mission of the Institute.

  • Capacity to manage multiple priorities and work in a high-performance professional environment, with quick turn-around and changing priorities.

  • Commitment to intellectual rigor and observance of compliance and data privacy controls.

Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills:

  • Graduate degree in economics, public policy, statistics, or related field is a plus.

  • Experience with big data computing on a public cloud platform (e.g. Spark, PySpark, and AWS) is a plus.

  • Experience working with technical collaboration tools (Git, Jira) is a plus.

  • Prior experience working with financial services or other administrative data sets is a plus.

  • Experience with quantitative research, especially methods used for causal inference, is a plus.
