Job Summary:

The GIS Coordinator, supports the Multimodal Planning Division (MPD) in a management role of the Enterprise Data Programs and Outreach team. This position is responsible for overseeing the outreach activities for the acquisition, creation, dissemination, coordination, visualization, governance, maintenance and reporting of geospatially enabled enterprise data. The position will function as a liaison between data owners and management and will provide subject matter expertise of the GIS within the context of programs and outreach initiatives to management.

This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

Job Duties:

Manages and leads professional employees under the general direction of the GIS Group Manager and is responsible for the supervision of the Enterprise Data Programs and Outreach team.

Conduct outreach with business units and data owners to understand and document data challenges. Partner with the Information Technology Group (ITG) to evaluate new and existing GIS applications and databases. Promote good data governance practices by enabling data to be visualized and managed in a geospatial data format for improved analytical capabilities and life cycle analysis.

Develops and disperse technical documentation include workflows, metadata, training curriculum, status reports and other analytical documentation to ADOT and external customers. Identify and develop policy/standards for implementation throughout the agency to promote sustainability planning and knowledge management.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:
  • Google Workspace and Microsoft Office.
  • Planning principles, practices and procedures for maintenance of geospatial enabled data.
  • Intricacies of geospatial data and the ability to analyze via transportation applications.
  • Esri based GIS software tools (ArcGIS Pro) and workflows.
  • Implementing innovative technologies such as AI.
Skill in:
  • Computers and computer programming, including languages.
  • Technical documentation development best practices.
  • Writing and orally communicating, including report preparation and making presentations.
  • Successfully conduct research and data analysis for improving data and systems.
  • Ability to perform outreach with data owners and custodians.
Ability to:
  • Utilize GIS databases for analysis tools and GIS applications.
  • Interact with superiors, peers, officials and representatives of other agencies and the public.
  • Project management and budgetary updates.
  • Effectively communicate and interact with superiors, officials and the public on technical topics.

Selective Preference(s):

GIS Professional certification.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Bachelor Degree in Geography, Urban Planning, GIS or related field. Minimum of five (5) years of GIS experience.

This position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, and the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver's license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver's license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver's license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
