Standard Job Description

This position is for a Chief Engineering Senior Manager for the JASSM program in the Strike Systems program area. The successful candidate will report to the Hypersonics and Strike Systems Director Chief Engineer programmatically and be expected to lead the other members of the JASSM Chief Engineering staff to ensure synergy across tasks and to communicate lessons learned, as well as other Strike Systems Chief Engineers to ensure cross program collaboration.

What You Will Be Doing:

As the JASSM Program Chief Engineer, you will be responsible for:
  • Providing technical leadership that enables the team to meet and demonstrate all milestones on schedule
  • Providing Technical and Programmatic leadership/oversight on JASSM platform integration efforts across both USG and FMS customers.
  • Provide Technical and Programmatic leadership/oversight on all JASSM development efforts across both USG and FMS customers, as well as new missile variant development and capture efforts.
  • Providing Technical and Programmatic leadership/oversight on JASSM production execution, transition to production, and ramp efforts.
  • Develop a productive partnership and trusting relationship with the USG customer
  • Shape the product roadmap strategy and developing second source suppliers
  • Guide the Engineering team, IPT leads and cross-functional teams in program planning, scheduling, trade studies, design concepts, verification, and critical life cycle reviews
  • Ensure program staffing is appropriate from an E&T perspective
  • Collaborate with Engineering Excellence management to ensure program milestones are successfully completed
  • Support and lead program technical reviews and participating in monthly E&T meetings, staff meetings, and other critical program activities
  • Communicate lessons learned and ensuring synergy across tasks with the entire Chief Engineer staff

Accountable for all aspects of engineering and technology activities within a program, program area, or line of business to ensure mission milestones and business objectives are met. Serves as the primary technical authority / technical interface with internal program management and external customers. Ensures proposals have sound technical solutions and schedules and drive affordability. Leads a technical team of cross functional engineers to ensure successful proper system/product development and execution. Evaluates and ensures complex issues are resolved in a cost effective, innovative way. Champion mission success and drive a mission success culture. Directs a team into exploration of new problem solution areas with novel concepts and approaches, guiding scope definition and prioritizing problems for investigation. Determine appropriate risk posture and develop mitigation strategies for complex projects. Ensure selected designs are robust and include appropriate margins to facilitate safety, performance, producibility and operational availability/supportability. Ensures program plans and technical baselines are consistent with Program Control processes and Modern Engineering Practices. Responsible for key decision making that impact businesses, the failure to achieve the objectives result in critical impact of program capabilities. Ensures identification of lessons learned, and corrective action are initiated and implemented to improve future and ongoing programs. Provides technical mentoring and career development support of team and allocates resources effectively. Leads and directs the technical execution efforts of the program or LOB.

Basic Qualifications

  • Have a minimum of a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university, with existing professional experience
  • Experience and demonstrated skillset with Missile systems design and development
  • Must possess ability to plan and lead the technical teams/efforts associated with Complex Missile Systems
  • Candidate will be required to communicate technical status and issues internally to program leadership, technical leadership and functional leadership as well as externally to the USG customer
  • Must be available for occasional domestic travel
  • Candidate must have a Secret clearance and be able to obtain program level and Top Secret clearance.


Desired Skills

  • An advanced degree in engineering from an accredited college or university is desired
  • Prior experience at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control is highly desired
  • Candidate should have wide experience/familiarity in collaborating with the Engineering & Technology functional organization
  • Ability to interface with the USG Customer office and global supply base
  • Ability to support technical reviews internally, with the customer, and external stakeholders, and at supplier locations
  • Experience in leading Failure Analysis and Failure Review Boards


Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $182500.00 - $338900.00

Benefits offered: Medical, Dental, Vision, Flexible work arrangements and schedules (e.g., 4x10), 401(k) match, Paid time off, Holidays, Parental Leave, EAP, Flexible Spending Accounts, Education Assistance, Life Insurance, Short-Term Disability, and Long-Term Disability.
  • Annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs may be offered depending on the position. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and can vary from year to year and are tied to a range of performance metrics.
  • For (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
