Job Summary **OPEN TO INTERNAL RICE COUNTY EMPLOYEES ONLY**JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Sheriff and Jail Administration, the Jail Sergeant is responsible for coordinating, monitoring, and directing correctional personnel, and assuring the implementation and compliance of jail policies, procedures, and rules. The Jail Sergeant is responsible for assuring and maintaining jail security, proper intake processes, sanitation, and safety procedures, as well as assisting with the training of new correctional personnel. The Jail Sergeant is responsible for reporting, handling, and initiating emergency procedures within the facilities, as well as providing assistance to jail administration concerning personnel actions. The Jail Sergeant will assume shifts in the jail for unforeseen staff shortages, including understaffed post.
Examples of Duties- Administers, directs, and supervises the security of the facility in accordance with Federal, State, and local laws; and makes operational decisions and verifies compliance based on these laws and standards.
- Supervises staff in the performance of their duties at the County Jail Facility.
- Organizes, recommends, and executes required activities such as policies and procedures, staffing plans, and general administrative tasks.
- Maintains open and effective communication with the courts, community corrections, social workers, medical professionals, mental health professionals, victims services coordinator and other branches of law enforcement.
- Maintains and demonstrates working knowledge on all required detainee management systems and software programs, detainee communication software, operation of x-ray machine, and all post orders for correctional officer positions.
- Manages jail financial operations in absence of Jail Records Staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The job requires an Associate Degree in Law Enforcement, Corrections or related field, and five years of Minnesota Government access related corrections experience or equivalent. A valid driver's license is required upon hire.

HOURS: Full Time. Rotating shift basis, 24 hours per day, 7 days per week
