Job DescriptionThe
IW Plan Compliance Consultant serves as an experienced technical resource within the Plan Compliance Services group. This position is responsible for performing compliance services for medium to highly complex plans while providing technical guidance, mentorship, and quality oversight for Associates and Analysts.
The Consultant serves as a trusted advisor to plan sponsors, applying advanced technical expertise to evaluate complex compliance matters, interprets regulatory requirements, and develops corrective action strategies. Recommendations have a direct impact on regulatory compliance outcomes, operational risk management, client satisfaction, and retention. This position operates with a high degree of independence, exercising sound professional judgement.
How You'll Spend Your Time- You will advise retirement plan sponsors on compliance requirements, plan design strategies, and regulatory changes.
- You will independently manage annual compliance projects for moderately complex retirement plans.
- You will review participant eligibility, compensation, and contributions to ensure plan compliance.
- You will conduct and analyze retirement plan compliance testing and allocation calculations.
- You will provide technical guidance on compliance issues, correction methods, and regulatory requirements.
- You will coordinate Form 5500 filings, audit support, and corrective actions for operational issues.
- You will support complex compliance research, process improvements, training, and risk management initiatives.
Education & Experience RequirementsThis level of knowledge is normally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree in business, Accounting, Finance, or related field and 5-8 years of directly related retirement plan compliance or administration experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Advanced knowledge of retirement plan administration, plan operations, compliance requirements, and regulatory guidance affecting qualified retirement plans.
- Ability to manage and oversee moderately complex compliance projects from initial data collection through final deliverable preparation and client consultation.
- Strong understanding of plan design provisions, operational compliance requirements, correction principles, and regulatory reporting obligations.
- Ability to review compliance work prepared by others, identify risks or inconsistencies, and ensure adherence to departmental standards and procedures.
- Strong client relationship and consulting skills with the ability to communicate compliance risks, operational concerns, corrective actions, and plan design considerations to plan sponsors.
- Ability to interpret and apply regulatory guidance to resolve complex compliance matters and support operational decision-making.
- Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders, prioritize competing deadlines, and manage project deliverables.
- Ability to mentor, train, and provide technical guidance to Analysts and Associates.
- Ability to prepare, review, and finalize compliance deliverables, client communications, plan amendments, and supporting documentation.
- Ability to support quality review efforts, identify process improvement opportunities, and contribute to departmental risk management initiatives.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present information effectively to clients, auditors, management, and internal business partners
