an ITS Engineer to join our team in
Tallahassee, FL. This position will provide engineering support as part of a client-embedded team responsible for the planning, design, implementation, operation, maintenance, of transportation communications and supporting infrastructure systems.
The successful candidate will leverage their ITS engineering knowledge and experience to design, implement, operate, and maintain the statewide communications, networking, electrical, and supporting infrastructure systems that enable Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) deployments and operations.
The role requires close collaboration with client staff, operations and maintenance personnel, vendors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams to develop practical, dependable, maintainable, and constructible solutions for complex field environments.
Your role- Apply ITS engineering principles and transportation technology experience to the planning, design, implementation, operation, maintenance of communications, networking, electrical, and supporting infrastructure systems.
- Apply working knowledge of ITS architecture, field technologies, communications systems, and operational environments to develop infrastructure solutions that support field device connectivity, network transport, system integration, remote sites, and centralized operations.
- Design and develop scopes of work, engineering plans, technical specifications, layouts, and drawings for ITS communications and infrastructure projects. Assignments may include fiber optic systems, microwave communications networks, IP/MPLS networking, electrical power systems, equipment shelters, HVAC systems, lightning protection and grounding systems, emergency generators, DC power systems, uninterruptible power supplies, electronic access control systems, video surveillance systems, and network management systems.
- Organize and conduct engineering investigations, site reviews, field assessments, planning activities, and technical evaluations to support system improvements, technology deployments, corrective actions, and lifecycle replacement programs.
- Evaluate alternative design approaches, existing site conditions, operational requirements, applicable codes, regulatory criteria, and client standards to develop practical, cost-effective, maintainable, and constructible engineering solutions.
- Prepare engineering studies, technical memoranda, reports, system requirements, specifications, permit applications, cost estimates, material quantity estimates, and labor-hour estimates.
- Provide engineering support during procurement, implementation, construction, and system integration activities through plan reviews, shop drawing reviews, responses to requests for information, field observations, progress documentation, testing support, and technical issue resolution.
- Perform field inspections and condition assessments of ITS communications, networking, electrical, and supporting infrastructure systems to identify deficiencies, document existing conditions, validate asset information, and support maintenance and replacement planning.
- Collaborate with ITS operations, maintenance, engineering, and information technology personnel to ensure that proposed infrastructure solutions are compatible with operational needs and existing systems.
- Participate in quality assurance and quality control activities, including design reviews, drawing reviews, computation checks, technical evaluations, and verification of compliance with established engineering standards and practices.
- Prepare and deliver technical presentations to client staff, management, project teams, and other stakeholders.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of client programs, project delivery, and engineering services.
About you- Experience with ITS, traffic signals, transportation technology, traffic operations, or roadway safety projects is required.
- Experience with ITS communications and networking design is preferred, including fiber optic networks, Ethernet and IP networking, IP/MPLS transport, wireless communications systems, and field device connectivity.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering is required.
- Engineer Intern (E.I.) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification is required. Professional Engineer (PE) licensure is preferred.
- 2 to 5 years of relevant engineering experience, depending on education level and project experience.
- Strong technical writing, communication, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required. Experience with CAD, MicroStation, Visio, or similar engineering and technical drawing software is preferred.

Additional information Expected compensation range is between $85,000-$135,000 annually depending on skills, experience, and geographical location.
