Position SummaryThe City of Manassas is seeking an experienced Telecommunications Engineer II or III to support and maintain the City's enterprise network and telecommunications. This position plays a critical role in ensuring reliable, secure, and high-performing technology systems that support City operations and emergency services. Essential Job FunctionsThis is what you'll do ...- Design, implement, maintain, troubleshoot, and support enterprise network and telecommunications systems.
- Administer and support the City's Mitel phone system, voicemail, VoIP infrastructure, and related telecommunications services.
- Configure and maintain network infrastructure, including routers, switches, wireless access points, VLANs, ACLs, fiber optic and copper cabling, and leased data circuits.
- Monitor network and system performance, security, and availability while assisting with disaster recovery planning and implementation.
- Provide Tier II/III technical support for Windows users through the City's IT help desk, resolving complex technical issues and documenting work in the ticketing system.
- Support non-emergency public safety communications systems, audio logging systems, and related communication devices.
- Manage network and telecommunications assets, coordinate equipment purchases, maintain inventory, and work with vendors to resolve hardware and software issues.
- Lead or participate in technology implementation projects, coordinate contractors, monitor project progress, and ensure successful deployment of new systems.
- Prepare technical documentation, maintain system records, and provide technical guidance and training to City staff.
- Participate in an on-call rotation to support critical City technology systems outside normal business hours.

Minimum Required QualificationsIT Telecommunications Engineer III- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field; supplemented by six (6) years of experience in network technical support and/or telecommunications programming; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must have successfully completed required courses and certifications; may be required to obtain additional certification(s) as deemed necessary by the City.
IT Telecommunications Engineer II- Associates' degree in Computer Science or related field; supplemented by four (4) years of experience in network technical support and/or telecommunications programming; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must have successfully completed required courses and certifications; may be required to obtain additional certification(s) as deemed necessary by the City.
