Advertised Job Summary The University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville is seeking to hire an IT Systems Engineer.
Reporting to the IT Operations Manager of the School of Medicine, the Systems Engineer is responsible for supporting equipment in a mixed environment (including Mac, Windows and other platforms), from design through implementation and support. The Systems Engineer performs a wide variety of installation, configuration and upgrading of workstations, servers and related hardware for USC School of Medicine Greenville (USCSOMG). Will work directly with the Office of Education, Assessment, Student Affairs, Faculty Affairs, Finance and Academic affairs and will interface directly with students, Faculty and staff of both the USCSOMG and the partners in the Health Sciences Center.
Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience - Requires a bachelor's degree in a job related field and 1 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.
Required Certification, Licensure/Other CredentialsPreferred Qualifications - Jamf management and implementation experience® Security administration experience or other technical skills.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities - Possesses an understanding of computer engineering, complex system development methods, system testing practices, information technology equipment and procedures, production schedules and information technology uses, as well as proficiency with databases and SQL.
- Applies relevant specialized engineering experience, advanced certifications (including CCNA, MCSE, and MCITP), demonstrated skills in IT installation, programming, and system maintenance, and knowledge of VMware virtualization technology to support technical operations and initiatives.
- Manages multiple complex projects, including those involving interdisciplinary teams; plans, organizes, and reviews the work of administrative and technical staff; and develops, implements, and evaluates the effectiveness of administrative policies and procedures.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with operators and end customers; demonstrates commitment to advancing the mission, vision, and guiding principles of USCSOM Greenville/GHS in setting priorities and conducting work; promotes teamwork, self-awareness, professionalism, open and transparent communication, and servant/conscious leadership; proactively applies training, experience, knowledge, and skills to address emerging institutional needs; and fosters a welcoming work environment, positive institutional culture, and respect for others.
Job Duties
Job Duty Develop Systems:
Coordinates system development tasks to include design, integration and formal testing. Communicates with stakeholders to identify what they want a system to accomplish. Performs task such as VMware administration where the Systems Engineer deploys and manages components required for the VMware virtual environment including vCenter, virtual servers and appliances. Deploys and manages hardware used in the environment including: physical servers (Cisco and HP), storage (NetApp and HP), hyperconverged solutions (Nutanix) . Deploys and manages virtual servers including: Windows Server 2022 and 2025; Linux; and virtual appliances. Management of migration from virtual desktop environments. The Systems Engineer creates and updates base images (Horizon View), create and updates application layers (App Volumes), maintains and troubleshoots user profiles (UEM). Deploys and manages servers, server applications, storage, and backups for the Simulation iQ system used by the Simulation Center. Creates and maintains Azure Power Automate tasks.

Oversees and test new systems to ensure that it accomplishes what it is supposed to. Regularly tests existing systems. Develops and completes actions in system specifications related to technical and logistical requirements.

Job Duty Maintain Systems:
Creates and maintains programmatic and technical documentation of systems, monitors its operation, and troubleshoot problems that arise keeping the system running smoothly. As a Systems Engineer, provides support to users of a system. Oversees Database administration - MS SQL Server and MySQL , system administration for Web Help Desk, PaperCut Print Management, Active Directory User Management System (ADUMS), Palo Alto Firewall, MS Teams, Olympus Net Image Server, Asset Panda, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Jamf, and Meraki/Cisco Cloud Control. Manages Unitrends backup appliance and MDM configurations in Jamf. Requests, installs, and updates SSL certificates.
