Job Description
The Office of the Governor, Division of Administrative Services is looking for an IT Systems Administrator to join our team in Juneau!
The Office of the Governor (GOV) Information Technology team is a cross-trained team of six consisting of three junior positions, two senior positions, and the IT Manager. This IT Systems Administrator position is one of the team's senior-level technical roles and supports the Office of the Governor, Office of the Lieutenant Governor, Office of Management and Budget, Division of Elections, and the Alaska State Commission for Human Rights. The GOV IT team is responsible for administering, maintaining, troubleshooting, and securing the department's technology environment, including infrastructure, endpoints, servers, enterprise services, and network-connected devices. The successful candidate must be professional, approachable, and committed to providing excellent customer service to staff at all levels of the department.

Required Technical Skills:
  • Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis across endpoints, servers, infrastructure, enterprise cloud services, and network-connected devices.
  • Enterprise Windows administration, including workstation and server operating systems, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, file services, authentication services, and related infrastructure dependencies.
  • Identity and access management practices, including account lifecycle management, role-based access, privilege control, MFA, and secure access standards.
  • Endpoint and system security fundamentals, including patch management, vulnerability remediation, secure configuration, operational security, and audit-ready administration.
  • Hardware, software, network connectivity, system integration, and interoperability support across a mixed technical environment.
  • Clear technical documentation, knowledge sharing, and communication with teammates, vendors, contractors, partner agencies, and technical stakeholders.
  • Discretion when supporting confidential, sensitive, or high-visibility systems, users, records, or operational matters.
  • Independent workload management, including prioritizing competing requests, supporting concurrent projects, escalating risks, and following issues through resolution.


Desired Technical Skills:

  • Microsoft 365, Azure, or comparable enterprise cloud platform administration, including service configuration, identity integration, access control, monitoring, and operational support.
  • Microsoft Power Platform support, including Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI, environment administration, access control, connector governance, troubleshooting, documentation, and coordination with business application owners.
  • PowerShell or comparable scripting and automation tools used for administration, reporting, configuration validation, repeatable remediation, and operational efficiency.
  • Virtualization, enterprise storage, server hardware, and infrastructure lifecycle support in production environments.
  • Systems monitoring, alerting, log review, operational reporting, service-health tracking, and performance/capacity analysis.
  • Backup, recovery, disaster recovery, and continuity practices for production systems, including restore testing and operational documentation.
  • System migrations, upgrades, application/platform transitions, and service changes, including planning, testing, implementation, rollback planning, and post-change validation.
  • Security-focused systems administration, including hardening, access reviews, vulnerability remediation, audit support, and implementation of controls that protect confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
  • Linux server administration, including installation, configuration, patching, user and group management, permissions, system services, logging, monitoring, troubleshooting, and secure configuration of production Linux systems.
  • LAMP stack and WordPress administration, including Linux, Apache, MySQL/MariaDB, PHP, WordPress core/plugin/theme maintenance, configuration, patching, performance tuning, log review, backup/recovery support, SSL/TLS configuration, security hardening, and troubleshooting of web application hosting environments.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and progressively responsible professional experience in systems administration, infrastructure support, or related information technology operations that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this position. This is typically gained through training in computer science, information technology, system administration, or a similar field, together with professional experience supporting enterprise systems, infrastructure services, and end-user computing environments.
