IT Support Specialist

San Mateo, CA

About the Team:

The IT Engineering Support team at PlayStation is dedicated to enhancing the experience for engineers across the company. Our primary mission is to remove friction in daily workflows, providing excellent customer service with end-to-end ownership of issues, and identifying knowledge gaps across teams. We operate at the intersection of IT support and engineering, ensuring our internal engineering community has a seamless and empowering user experience.

About the Role:

We are looking for a self-starting IT Support professional who thrives in a dynamic, multi-functional environment and is passionate about bridging the gap between IT support and engineering.

In this role, you will own key IT tools and platforms used by engineering teams and drive the engineering support experience. You will also proactively identify and facilitate opportunities to expand the scope of tooling support by collaborating with engineering customers.

This role is ideal for someone who has evolved beyond traditional helpdesk duties and is looking to make a meaningful impact on how engineers work at scale. You will participate in a live support Slack channel on a rotating schedule, where engineers place live requests. You'll work closely with engineering teams to uncover and close support gaps, ensuring the best possible experience for our internal developer community.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Own and support tools used by engineering teams, including user support and automation.
  • Support engineering developer hardware, following rigorous company guidelines.
  • Proactively identify areas for improved support across IT workflows.
  • Engage with a real-time support channel for engineering teams, taking full ownership of issues through resolution.
  • Collaborate with engineering and partner IT teams to bridge support gaps and align tooling and process improvements.
  • Support systems including MacOS, Windows 10/11, Windows Server, Active Directory, Linux (Ubuntu), GitHub and MDM solutions like InTune and Jamf.
  • Keep systems secure and up-to-date in alignment with InfoSec requirements.
  • Document procedures, troubleshooting guides, and contribute to shared team knowledge bases.

What We're Looking For:
  • Deep experience with MacOS, Windows, and Linux systems administration.
  • Familiarity with modern endpoint management tools (e.g., Microsoft InTune, Jamf).
  • Experience supporting developer tools, GitHub, and SaaS tooling.
  • Working knowledge of automation/scripting (PowerShell, Bash, Python a plus).
  • Solid understanding of networking, storage, and security fundamentals.
  • Backup systems, audit logging, and monitoring experience.

Bonus:
  • Experience supporting internal developer tools or platforms.
  • Previous work on a team focused on developer productivity or IT enablement.
  • Understanding of access provisioning workflows and permission models in large organizations.
  • Experience with cloud and virtualization platforms (vSphere, AWS), storage systems, backup systems, and endpoint environments.

Why This Role Matters:

As we continue to scale IT Engineering Support, having experienced support techs who can both support and elevate the engineering experience is essential. Your work will directly impact the productivity of engineers company-wide. You'll not only solve today's problems but help us prevent tomorrow's by building resilient, scalable solutions and ensuring knowledge continuity across teams.
