IT Supervisor position at La School Employees' Retirement System

The Information Technology Supervisor position reports directly to the Information Technology Director. The incumbent occupying this position is responsible for managing one IT Application Developer 1 position and one IT Technical Support Analyst 1 position. The incumbent will provide hands-on training in the utilization of the most technically advanced applications and platforms in an integrated development environment and assist in the design, development, implementation, documentation, and maintenance of one or more systems, while serving as the lead worker over instructional procedures and training for new or modified systems.

Minimum Qualifications

Six years of experience in information technology; OR

Six years of full-time work experience in any field plus four years of experience in information technology; OR

An associate's degree in information technology plus four years of experience in information technology; OR

A bachelor's degree plus four years of experience in information technology; OR

A bachelor's degree with twenty-four semester hours in an information technology, computer science, engineering, mathematics, or business analytics field plus three years of experience in information technology; OR

A master's degree plus three years of experience in information technology.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:

• Plans, organizes, and supervises all LSERS technical functionality, including maintenance, implementation, support, and upgrades of network hardware and software applications, including but not limited to Microsoft Active Directory, Fortinet LAN Switches and firewalls, Fortinet security software and applications, Microsoft Hyper-V virtual server infrastructure, Microsoft Office 365 applications, network backup appliances and desktop computers.
• Develops, implements, monitors, and maintains hardware projects. Coordinates downtime with design/development team to ensure smooth operation of the LSERS Development Infrastructure. Provides timely responses to requests from administration.
• Ensures backup and business continuity procedures are followed by subordinate staff, facilitating reliable access to the agency pension system and its web interfaces both internally and publicly. Ensures that documentation regarding departmental functions is maintained and kept current, and that all Information Technology agency policies are followed, particularly those related to data security.
• Manages subordinate staff by delegating and prioritizing work assignments. Ensures timely implementation of project and enhancement requests. Organizes and attends meetings to provide input in establishing priorities for projects. Provides input in developing the Information Technology budget, including planning, purchasing, and long-term acquisitions. Evaluates emerging technologies and security solutions and makes recommendations to the IT Director regarding cost, implementation timelines, feasibility and redundancy.
• Participates in technical training, seminars, and conferences. Allocates time and resources to provide necessary training to IT staff, to enhance their work in evolving technological environments. Evaluates and recommends formal education/training needs for direct reports. Conducts performance appraisals and planning sessions, evaluates work performance, and counsels employees as necessary. Analyzes job requirements and updates position descriptions as necessary.
• Plans and coordinates staff orientation, education, training, and ongoing professional development initiatives.
• Other duties as assigned.

Position-Specific Details:

Appointment Type: Promotional, only open to current permanent employees of La School Employees' Retirement System.

Hours and Location: This position will work an 8 hr. shift Monday - Fridaybetween the hours of 7:00am - 4:30pm at the La School Employees' Retirement System office in Baton Rouge.
