Job Purpose or Objective(s): IT Project Manager: plays a key role in helping achieve project objectives and in supporting the overall mission of the Choctaw Nation by providing support to a range of IT projects. The role of the IT Project Manager is to plan, execute, and finalize projects according to strict deadlines and within budget, including acquiring resources and coordinating the efforts of team members to deliver projects according to plan.

Primary Tasks:
  1. Independently creates project documents, establishes and facilitates meetings of cross-functional workgroups and project steering committees, overall project coordination, including planning and sequencing work, setting milestones and deadlines, assigning responsibilities and providing status updates.
  2. Works on multiple diverse projects or programs of moderate size, scope, and complexity. Manages activities of medium sized project teams, which may include consultants or 3rd party vendors, controlling the indirect management of resources and schedules to ensure timely completion.
  3. A seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of area of specialization; resolves a wide range of issues in creative ways. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
  4. Normally receives little instruction on day-to-day work; general instruction on new assignments.
  5. Significant ability to influence external departments on a wide range of issues pertaining to department functions. Maintains strong relationships with vendors, customers and peers. May mentor less experienced project managers.
  6. Identifies project risks and implement contingency plans. Identifies and resolves issues and obstacles, escalating where necessary to the project sponsor, steering committee, or appropriate party. Begins to identify conflicts between competing projects and aligns the work to be performed in order to achieve departmental goals.
  7. Collaborates with business, IT and vendor teams to develop detailed work plans, including work breakdown structures, project milestones, risk assessment / management plans, staffing needs, project timelines and budgets. Assists IT leadership team in monitoring and responding to customer satisfaction concerns.
  8. Manages communication plan for project status, issues and risks; provides project performance metrics with a focus on status, budgets, and projections. Organizes, schedules, and manages project work sessions, status meetings and presentations to the project steering committee.
  9. Adjusts plans of action in response to changes in priority. Shifts project team focus in response to newly identified risks or issues.
  10. Perform other duties as may be assigned.
