About the position

Duties
Leads the planning, delivery, and support of the organization's technology architecture, including network and system administration, enterprise infrastructure, IT security and cybersecurity operations, identity and access management, disaster recovery, datacenter operations, and digital certificate management. Oversees complex IT projects, provides expert technical guidance, and supervises technical staff to ensure secure, reliable, resilient, and scalable IT services.
• Manages server, network, cloud, and virtualized environments across their full life cycle.
• Coordinates backup, security, identity and access management (IAM), digital certificate management, and environment provisioning activities.
• Administers and oversees IT security controls, vulnerability remediation, SSL/TLS certificates, public key infrastructure (PKI), encryption standards, and compliance with organizational security policies.
• Performs architecture research, performance analysis, capacity forecasting, and technology risk assessments.
• Resolves escalated technical issues and ensures adherence to ITIL-aligned processes.
• Implements and maintains disaster recovery and business continuity capabilities.
• Monitors infrastructure security posture and coordinates incident response, threat mitigation, and security-related operational activities.
• Collaborates closely with Infrastructure & Operations leadership on architectural strategy.

Work environment
The Office of the Commissioner for Federal Judicial Affairs Canada (FJA) is part of the Core Public Administration and is not serviced by the Pay Centre. We have our own compensation team. In addition, FJA is not serviced by Shared Services Canada. We have an in-house Information Management and Information Technology (IM/IT) team responsible for managing and supporting the organization's IM/IT environment. FJA has approximately 70 employees. Our offices are located at 99 Metcalfe Street, in the heart of downtown Ottawa. The area is served by major bus routes and a light rail station, and employees have access in the building to amenities such as kitchens, showers, change rooms, secure bicycle storage. Parking is available nearby, at the employee's expense. Close to our building, you'll find many coffee shops, restaurants and other essential services.

Currently, all employees are expected to work on-site for a minimum of 4 days per week established by the employer. Please note that these conditions are subject to change.

Intent of the process
The intent of this selection process is to staff one (1) indeterminate position (permanent).

A fully or partially assessed pool may be created and may be used to staff identical or similar positions at the same or equivalent group and level, with various tenures and security requirements within the Office of the Commissioner for Federal Judicial Affairs Canada.

Education
Graduation from a two-year program of study from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in computer science, information technology, information management or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed.

Indeterminate incumbents in the IT group on December 9, 2021 who do not possess the education prescribed above, are deemed to meet the minimum education standard based on their education, training and/or experience. They must be accepted as having met the minimum education standard whenever this standard is called for when staffing positions in the IT group.
2. Indeterminate incumbents of positions in the CS group on May 10, 1999, who do not possess the education prescribed above, are deemed to meet the minimum education standard based on their education, training and/or experience. They must be accepted as having met the minimum education standard whenever this standard is called for when staffing positions in the IT group.
3. At the manager's discretion, an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience may serve as an alternative to the minimum education stated above. Whenever the minimum education is met using this alternative, it is met for the specific position only and must be re-assessed for other positions for which this alternative has been specified by the manager.

Experience:
EX1: Recent* experience in administration and support of Wide Area Networks (WAN) and Local Area Networks (LAN).
EX2: Recent* and significant** experience managing a centralized Information Management and Information Technology (IM/IT) facility providing advanced infrastructure for IM/IT services and operations.
EX3: Recent* and significant** experience in configuring and supporting networking equipment such as switches, firewalls and security appliances.

*Recent is defined as experience normally acquired within the last eight (8) years in a work environment.
**Significant is defined as the depth and breadth of experience normally associated with the performance of the duties for a period of approximately three (3) years in a work environment.
