The Network Architect serves as the strategic leader responsible for designing, planning, and guiding the evolution of Bernalillo County's enterprise network infrastructure. This role focuses on long-term architecture, scalability, security, and alignment with organizational goals. The Network Architect provides technical vision, ensures compliance with industry standards, and acts as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on network strategy.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Define and maintain the county's enterprise network architecture roadmap.
- Lead the design of complex, multi-site, hybrid (cloud/on-premises) network solutions.
- Ensure scalability, resilience, and security in all network designs.
- Provide technical direction and mentorship to Network Engineers and IT staff.
- Establish standards, policies, and best practices for network operations.
- Serve as the escalation point for high-impact network issues.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend adoption strategies.
- Drive modernization initiatives such as cloud integration.
- Align network architecture with county-wide digital transformation goals.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including cybersecurity mandates.
- Partner with Information Security teams to embed security into network design.
- Document architecture decisions and maintain enterprise-level diagrams and standards.

- Ten (10) years of progressive experience in network engineering, design, or architecture.

SCREENING AND COMPLIANCEThe offer of this Bernalillo County position requires compliance with the following:
- Successful completion of a post-offer employment medical examination.
- Adherence to all County safety guidelines.
- Complete all FEMA training(s) assigned to this position.
- Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license by the date of hire and maintenance of a valid license while employed in this position.
- Complete required supervisor training, if applicable.
PREFERENCES- Cisco Network Certification (CCNP), Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE), or equivalent.
WORKING CONDITIONS- Work is typically performed in an indoor office environment but occasionally requires travel to other locations.
- Work environments may include noise, dust and/or unpleasant odors, and may occasionally require work in confined spaces.
- Occasional evenings, holidays, and/or weekend work may be required.
EQUIPMENT, TOOLS, AND MATERIALS- Equipment typically used in the performance of office duties includes telephone, computer, printer, and copy machine.
