Position Summary

Data Scientists are responsible for driving insights and informing decision making to enhance the business's understanding of individual population segments, propensities, outcomes, and decision points. Data Scientists have a robust understanding of key concepts such as big data, advanced analytical techniques, data storytelling, and sophisticated modeling techniques. They combine data, computational science, and technology with consumer-oriented business knowledge, to drive high-value insights into the organization.

The Data Scientist is responsible for generating insights from data through machine learning, deep learning, and AI to augment business decision making. This role must have hands-on experience to build, experiment, and implement AI solutions at scale. This Data Scientist must have the passion to communicate business value through data storytelling, curious to learn and experiment based on A/B methods. The right candidate will have deep knowledge of applying AI / ML / DL methods and algorithms across retail areas such as forecasting, pricing, supply chain cost optimization, and inventory management.

Job Duties/Essential Functions
  • Applies AI, machine learning, and other analytical approaches to solve well-defined business problems.
  • Builds and helps design AI/ML/DL models that support business goals including revenue growth, cost reduction, and improved member experience.
  • Leverages LLMs (Gemini, Claude, OpenAI) to augment AI solutions.
  • Frames a problem, forms a hypothesis, and validates it with data (with guidance from senior team members).
  • Performs feature engineering, evaluates model effectiveness and accuracy on an ongoing basis, and reports on model performance.
  • Communicates complex data and findings in a simple, actionable way to technical and business partners.
  • Conducts A/B testing and presents data-backed options.
  • Writes clean, well-documented, production-quality code and participates in peer code reviews, applying industry-standard AI/ML Ops practices.
  • Designs the analytics methodology to solve business problems.
  • Processes, cleanses, and verifies the integrity of data used for analysis.
  • Enriches enterprise data with external sources of information when needed.
  • Mines and analyzes data from enterprise databases by applying statistics, machine learning and analytic approaches to drive optimization and improvement of product development, marketing techniques, business strategies etc.
  • Uses predictive modeling to increase and optimize supply chain, customer experiences, loyalty programs, and other business outcomes.
  • Selects features, and builds and optimizes classifiers using machine learning techniques.
  • Assesses the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and data gathering techniques.
  • Enhances data collection procedures to include information that is relevant for building analytic systems.
  • Develops company testing framework and test model quality.
  • Coordinates with different functional teams to implement models and monitor outcomes.
  • Develops processes and tools to monitor and analyze model performance and data accuracy.
  • Creates automated anomaly detection systems and constant tracking of its performance.
  • Conducts ad-hoc analysis and presents results in an articulated manner.
  • Works with stakeholders throughout the organization to understand their requests/business problems and to identify opportunities for leveraging company data to drive business solutions.
  • Develops comprehensive knowledge of data structures and metrics, and advocates for changes where needed for product development.
  • Performs peer review for another Data Scientist's work.

Experience, Skills, Education & Licenses/Certifications
Required:
  • 4+ years of hands-on experience building AI/ML models, preferably in Retail / CPG / eCommerce.
  • 3+ years of experience building and implementing business insights using AI / ML / Deep Learning at scale.
  • Proficiency in SQL, Python and PySpark; solid grounding in Machine Learning / Deep Learning.
  • Proficiency in ML frameworks: TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn, XGBoost, Keras, ML Flow.
  • Working proficiency with ML/AI services: Vertex AI (training, prediction, pipelines), AutoML AI Platform.
  • Strong experience working in a cloud platform (GCP) and with diverse data types on cloud platforms.
  • Expertise with at least one data visualization tool.
  • Ability to take ownership of components of a solution and mentor junior team members on best practices.
Recommended:
  • Bachelor's/Master's degree, or the equivalent, in Computer Science, Data Science, and Statistics/Mathematics or related field.
  • Knowledge of Agile software development.
  • Knowledge of retail industry/Ecom.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Google Workspace applications, including Sheets, Docs, Slides, and Gmail.
