Summary

This position is located in the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, headquartered in Washington, District of Columbia.

Duties

Help

As an IT Cybersecurity Specialist (INFOSEC), you will:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain cybersecurity policies, security controls, and secure SDLC processes to ensure information systems comply with Federal cybersecurity requirements, organizational security standards, and applicable laws, regulations, and guidance.
  • Conduct cybersecurity risk assessments, security control assessments, and compliance reviews; analyzes vulnerabilities and recommends corrective actions to reduce risk and strengthen the organization's security posture.
  • Coordinate cybersecurity projects and contractor activities by monitoring technical performance, deliverables, schedules, and contract compliance while preparing reports, metrics, and documentation to support enterprise cybersecurity operations.
  • Perform cybersecurity risk management activities, including vulnerability assessments, security control evaluations, and remediation planning to improve the security and resilience of organizational information systems.
  • Monitor and maintain the cybersecurity posture of department information systems through continuous assessment, security status reporting, vulnerability tracking, and ongoing maintenance activities.

Basic Qualifications:

Applicants for the 2210 Information Technology Management series at the GS-12 grade level must have Information Technology (IT) related experience which demonstrates proficiency in the following competencies:

Minimum Qualifications: You must have one year specialized experience to perform successfully the duties of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service performing ALL of the following:

  • Developing and implementing cybersecurity policies, security controls, and System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) processes to ensure compliance with Federal cybersecurity requirements, organizational security standards, and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Analyzing information security risks, conducting security assessments, evaluating system compliance, and recommending corrective actions to mitigate vulnerabilities and improve the organization's cybersecurity posture.
  • Coordinating cybersecurity initiatives, monitoring contractor performance, deliverables, schedules, technical services, and compliance with contract requirements and preparing security reports and metrics to support enterprise information security operations and compliance objectives.
  • Conducting risk assessments, vulnerability analyses, security control evaluations, and corrective action planning to strengthen organizational cybersecurity capabilities and reduce operational risk.
  • Performing continuous updating, monitoring, assessment, maintenance, and reporting on the cybersecurity status of department information systems.
