Full Job Description
Our IT Business Insurance department is currently seeking a senior developer to join a development team supporting the Small Business unit of the Commercial Lines Department at The Cincinnati Insurance Companies. This team owns a mission-critical solution utilized both internally and externally by our customers for policy management. This position is for a senior C# developer with at least 7 years of consistent focus on C# and Microsoft SQL Server development.

This person will work with a cross-functional agile team of 10-15 members to implement and update functionality across multiple aspects of the application. The application consists of a product agnostic engine constructed in C# that utilizes a SQL Server data store. The presentation layer is built with Angular technology that supports cross-browser functionality and is responsive across multiple device types. The application uses asynchronous REST calls with a JSON format to interact with backend processes for policy management. This position will involve a great deal of XML and XPath work. The application leverages proprietary XML as operational directives. In addition to the above, work on infrastructure, systems integration, and support of utilities fall into this area of development.

Work location and flexibility are subject to change based on evolving business needs, but generally, selected candidates who reside:

  • within 50 miles of Headquarters may be expected to work in a hybrid capacity, combining remote and onsite work when business needs necessitate.
  • more than 50 miles from Headquarters must be flexible and available to travel to Fairfield, OH, on an occasional basis for special events, training sessions, or key meetings.

To ensure active engagement in meetings, it is mandatory for all IT associates to have cameras turned on for all interactions with other associates, customers, and stakeholders. Your camera must be on and positioned correctly to clearly show your face. This practice is crucial for maintaining connection and engagement, as non-verbal cues are essential for effective communication.

Starting Pay: The pay range for this position is $90,000 - $145,000 annually. The pay determination is based on the applicant's education, experience, location, knowledge, skills, and abilities. Eligible associates may also receive an annual cash bonus and stock incentives based on company and individual performance.

Be ready to:

  • design, development, unit testing, and maintenance of the software
  • improve the application and/or extend its integration into other systems which may involve code changes to the web, server APIs, database and third-party interface technologies
  • work closely with other developers and technical leads to implement new functionality and resolve defects

Be equipped with:

  • 7-10 years of solid and consistent .NET/C# development experience.
  • working knowledge of OOO programing (e.g., usage of Interfaces, Abstract Classes, Virtual Methods, Base Classes, etc.).
  • experience using the Microsoft Enterprise Library for Data Access and ORM capabilities.

  • experience with JavaScript and one or more of JavaScript frameworks, Angular preferred
  • experience with one or more CSS frameworks, Bootstrap preferred
  • experience with Cross-browser compatibility with regards to scripting and styling

  • understands and uses development patterns and design best practices.
  • experience in XML development including leveraging XSLT and XPath is a must.
  • experience consuming and implementing WCF/ASMX web services.
  • excellent and clear verbal and written communication skills.
