Full Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Account Director to lead a strategic IT services portfolio supporting government customers. The Account Director reports to senior leadership and is responsible for the overall operational, financial, and strategic management of a portfolio valued between $30 million and $50 million annually.

The Account Director serves as the executive point of contact for customers, ensuring successful delivery of IT services while driving operational excellence, customer satisfaction, account growth, and financial performance. This role requires a strategic leader who can build trusted client relationships, lead high-performing teams, oversee complex technology programs, and identify opportunities for continued business expansion.

Responsibilities
  • Provide executive leadership for a portfolio of IT programs and services with annual revenue and spend responsibility of $30-50 million.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with executive customer stakeholders, serving as the primary escalation point for strategic initiatives.
  • Ensure successful execution of all IT programs by delivering high-quality services on time, within budget, and in accordance with contractual obligations and service level agreements.
  • Lead geographically dispersed, cross-functional IT teams while fostering employee engagement, development, and retention.
  • Oversee financial performance of the portfolio, including forecasting, budgeting, resource planning, profitability, and risk management.
  • Partner with customers to understand evolving technology needs and identify opportunities for account growth and expanded IT services.
  • Develop strategic account plans that align customer objectives with organizational capabilities.
  • Collaborate with business development teams to identify, qualify, and pursue new opportunities within existing and prospective accounts.
  • Support capture and proposal activities by providing operational insight, solution recommendations, staffing strategies, pricing input, and transition planning.
  • Maintain an accurate sales pipeline and support strategic growth initiatives.
  • Analyze customer technology roadmaps, emerging IT trends, and market conditions to position innovative solutions.
  • Partner with technical leadership to develop scalable, secure, and modern IT service solutions.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across program delivery, operational processes, customer experience, and service quality.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), operational metrics, and customer satisfaction measures.
  • Communicate portfolio performance, financial status, risks, and strategic initiatives to executive leadership.
  • Lead contract execution while ensuring compliance with customer requirements and organizational policies.
  • Foster collaboration across operations, finance, delivery, recruiting, and business development teams to achieve customer and organizational objectives.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience managing large-scale Information Technology programs, portfolios, or enterprise IT service delivery.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex IT service contracts or portfolios valued between $30 million and $50 million annually.
  • Extensive experience leading enterprise IT operations, infrastructure, cloud services, cybersecurity, application development, digital transformation, or managed IT services.
  • Strong financial management experience including P&L ownership, forecasting, budgeting, resource planning, and portfolio performance management.
  • Proven success building and maintaining executive-level customer relationships.
  • Experience leading large, geographically distributed technical teams in complex operational environments.
  • Strong understanding of IT service delivery methodologies, operational excellence, governance, and performance management.
  • Experience supporting business growth through account expansion, pipeline development, proposal support, and strategic planning.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, presentation, and executive relationship management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage risk, resolve complex operational challenges, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Experience with government IT programs is highly preferred.
  • Experience working with state or federal government customers is preferred.
  • PMP, ITIL, or other relevant IT certifications are preferred.
  • Candidates must reside in the Des Moines, Iowa.


Compensation:

We provide a competitive pay and benefits package. This position is offering a salary range of $180,000-200,000. This position does have an annual bonus. Cognizant Government Services considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to education, experience, geographic location, and discipline. Benefits offered may include health care, dental, vision, life insurance; 401(k); education assistance; paid time off including PTO, holidays, and any other paid leave required by law.
