ISO Technical Director

WG Worcester/Brighton/Princeton Facilities

Wyman-Gordon, located in Worcester, MA, provides Isothermal Forgings for military and commercial turbine applications using nickel based and titanium powder alloys. Both the Princeton KY and Brighton MI facilities supply raw material to the forge shop through use of Vacuum-Melt Atomizers, Lathes, and Equipment for Complete Billet Processing and Certification.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Technical Director is responsible for providing metallurgical and engineering leadership and support related to the development, implantation, and continuous improvement of processes and products that safely and cost-effectively meet customer demands for quality, consistency, and on-time performance. This role will have full management responsibility over facility metallurgy, lab and engineering in Brighton MI, Princeton KY and Worcester MA.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Main point of contact with customers, regulatory, and government agencies on all metallurgy, lab or engineering related issues, and audits
  • Develop concise operating procedures/policies across multiple facilities to drive repeatability and core knowledge requirements
  • Participates in new business development, quotes and timeline management.
  • Drive out variances within process to improve yield and reduce NCR/Scrap/submittals
  • Manage communication between plants and disciplines including quality, operations, sales and metallurgy
  • Participates in development of business unit/plant policy for areas that directly impact or are impacted by NPI.
  • Participates in Teams of cross-functional personnel for the purpose of reorganizing/improving functionality across ISO group
  • Project manages new Product introduction (NPI) process in conjunction with engineering and quality.
  • Primary technical contact for new equipment qualification and implementation including but not limited to Isothermal forging and atomization equipment.
  • Interfaces with all levels of the organizations.


EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • S. Degree in Metallurgy or Materials Science.
    • Advanced M.S. in Materials Science is highly preferred.
  • 10-15 years in related powder metallurgy
    • Nickle based super alloy background preferred.
  • Knowledge of computer software. Adept at Microsoft Office to communicate with customers and internal management current sales and deliver impacts.
  • Able to effectively communicate complex thoughts and procedures to all levels of the organization.
  • Travel to other facilities as needed (~25%)


SPECIAL SKILLS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proficient at multi-tasking
  • Ability to deal with ease under pressure from a fast paced production schedule, customer demands, operational and managerial conflicts
  • Able to convey technical and conceptual material to individuals at all levels in customer organizations as well as in Wyman-Gordon business unit.
  • Able to drive change across multiple facilities/states.


Relocation

Relocation is authorized for this position.

For informational purposes only, the range for annual base salary for this role is $190000 to $225000 US Dollar (USD) Salaried based on a variety of factors. For informational purposes only, this role is eligible to participate in the Company's Executive Bonus Plan, paid out up to 30% of the applicable annual base salary, based on the Company's performance in the prior calendar year. Employees will receive 120 hours paid time off every year. Employees will also receive 10 paid holidays. Employees (and their families) are eligible to participate in the company's medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance. Employees are eligible to enroll in the Company's 401(k) plan.

The position will be eligible to participate in the Company's Long-Term Incentive Program

This position requires use of information or access to production processes subject to national security controls under U.S. export control laws and regulations (including, but not limited to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the Export Administration Regulations (EAR)). To comply with those regulations, this position may require applicants to be U.S. Persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, U.S. lawful permanent residents, protected individuals as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)), or eligible to obtain the required export authorizations from the U.S. Department of State or the U.S. Department of Commerce.
