Job Summary

About this role:

Reporting to the Manager, Network Engineering, the Senior Network Security Analyst (SNSA) acts as a subject matter expert and leads the planning, network design and related communication services for the LDB and its distinct lines of business such as cannabis and liquor retail, cannabis and liquor distribution, cannabis and liquor wholesale, ecommerce sites, Finance, HR, IT, on-premise data centres and cloud based infrastructure.

The SNSA leads the research, planning, design, evaluation, implementation, troubleshooting and operation of the LDB's firewalls, VPNs, and related areas. These are completely independent of the Province of BC government network. The Senior Network Security Analyst predicts (forecasts) trends and works closely with the managers to keep the LDB networks secure and capable of meeting current and intermediate future needs (3-5 years).

The role has a wide scope of responsibility across all corporate applications, most of which are mission-critical, including ecommerce, cloud, web servers, retail systems, wholesale systems, corporate systems (HR, Finance, IT, etc.) and internet facing services involving considerable technical complexity and multiple firewalls.

The successful candidate must have the ability to travel overnight within the Province of British Columbia and occasionally lift heavy equipment. Work occurs during core business hours; however, this position may be required to adjust to business requirements. The LDB at times operates 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, which may result in shift work. A criminal record check is required.

Position requirements:

Education and Experience:
  • A degree or diploma in computer science or a related field, and a minimum of two (2) years of recent, related experience* with a current security certification such as CISSP or CISA or CISM or Security+.

OR
  • A combination of education, training and experience may be considered, i.e., three (3) years of recent, related experience* with formal course work and/or certifications in computer science or a related field, including a current security certification such as CISSP, CISA, CISM, or Security+.

OR
  • Secondary (high) school diploma or equivalent certificate with five (5) years of recent, related experience*, supplemented by a current security certification such as CISSP, CISA, CISM, or Security+.

*Recent, related experience must have occurred in the last ten (10) years and must include the following:
  • Experience managing the development, implementation, evaluation, and operation of network access control technologies such as Check Point, Cisco, Palo Alto, or Fortinet Firewalls.
  • Experience with WAN/LAN technologies, including routers, switches, wireless infrastructure such as access points and wireless LAN controllers.
  • Experience identifying, adapting, and implementing new methods and technologies to improve IT networks in accordance with network standards and best practices.
  • Experience leading or managing specific deliverables based on deadlines within a team/project environment.

Preference may be given to those candidates with experience in any of the following:
  • Associated security blades such as IPS, identity awareness, web filtering, content awareness, IDS/IPS.
  • Network subnetting/super-netting.
  • Check Point solutions experience or certification.
  • Application and system troubleshooting in relation to security.
  • Scripting (i.e., Python and PowerShell).
  • Network zoning and corporate firewalls.
  • Distributed firewalls.
  • Cloud based network security.
  • Virtual servers and appliances.
  • Payment Card Industry [PCI] certification.
  • Contract management.
  • Azure Network Security experience - Azure advanced firewalls or Check Point firewalls on Azure.
