Job Summary

The Department of Pathology, Division of Pathology Informatics is seeking a new member to fill the Desktop and Systems Manager position. This position oversees the operations and management of the help desk, hardware, and networking in the Department of Pathology. It manages a complex variety of hardware requirements and recommendations from the enterprise and laboratory vendors. Maintains oversight of all hardware footprints in existing and new facilities with Pathology services. Acts as a senior consultant to managed staff, providing guidance on prioritization of projects and tertiary support for IT incidents as needed. Provide hardware support in the conceptualization, development and implementation of multiple, interlinked systems and programs. This person is generally responsible for maintaining compliance in device security, network monitoring and PC maintenance including lifecycles.

Responsibilities*
  • Supervise, assign, evaluate, and support the work of assigned staff, including performance management, training, scheduling, and professional development
  • Coordinate Pathology IT operations, projects, and priorities to support laboratory, departmental, and enterprise goals
  • Recommend and implement IT solutions, equipment configurations, workflows, and process improvements that enhance laboratory operations and support Lean practices
  • Participate in quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives for laboratory and Pathology IT systems
  • Support the selection, evaluation, implementation, and ongoing support of laboratory analyzers, instruments, devices, applications, and related IT infrastructure
  • Review vendor device and instrument specifications to ensure compatibility with enterprise networking, application, security, and operational requirements
  • Lead or support major incident response, operational issue resolution, application coordination, and on-call coverage for team responsibilities
  • Maintain operational resources, including hardware, networking supplies, cabling, consumables, software/application packages, and related inventory
  • Collaborate with directors and leadership on budget planning, staffing projections, resource needs, and project prioritization
  • Represent the division in departmental, enterprise, regional, and policy planning meetings with faculty, medical staff, leadership, vendors, and IT partners
  • Ensure compliance with institutional policies, equal opportunity employment practices, employee safety programs, and applicable regulatory and licensing requirements
  • Administer and support Pathology ServiceNow workflows, service requests, and related operational processes

  • 7 or more years job experience in a large hospital system
  • Progressive experience supporting IT systems, laboratory systems, clinical applications, or healthcare technology operations.
  • Experience supervising, training, or leading technical or operational staff
  • Ability to work collaboratively with technical teams, clinical staff, faculty, vendors, and leadership


Desired Qualifications*
  • Experience in Pathology, laboratory medicine, or clinical informatics
  • Familiarity with Lean principles, continuous improvement, or process improvement methodologies
  • Experience with ServiceNow administration or ticketing/workflow platforms
  • Experience supporting laboratory instruments, middleware, LIS/LIMS systems, networked devices, or enterprise clinical applications
  • Experience with regulatory or accreditation standards such as CAP, CLIA, HIPAA, Joint Commission, or other applicable healthcare requirements
  • Prior management experience in an academic medical center, hospital, clinical laboratory, or enterprise IT environment

Work Schedule

This full time, 40 hour position is Exempt and may require additional hours to complete work and/or projects, it is on the day shift and may require rotating weekends, holidays and on-call.
