Position SummaryCentennial College's People and Equity team is recruiting for an experienced Investigations Consultant with a strong understanding of investigative processes within a diverse, student centred working and learning environment. The Consultant will be accountable for conducting sensitive and/or specialized investigations involving employees and students. The incumbent will coordinate and liaise with key stakeholders including staff, witnesses, and external agencies, as necessary. The incumbent will prepare investigative reports and present recommendations in support of the College's Harassment, Discrimination and Violence Prevention Policy and Sexual Violence Policy. In addition, the Consultant will be responsible for developing and facilitating various educational workshops and training.
Responsibilities - Coordinating and conducting investigations pursuant to the Harassment and Violence Prevention Policy ["HVPP"], the Human Rights Policy, Student Code of Conduct and the Sexual Violence and Sexual Misconduct Policy ["SVSMP"]
- Developing and conducting training College-wide related to sexual violence, human rights and workplace violence and bullying under the Occupational Health & Safety Act
- Liaising with external agencies related to investigations including police authorities
- Collaborating with other College departments in the investigation and resolution of matters
- Responding to crisis situations in a timely and effective manner
- Preparing investigative reports, outcome letters used for determination of appropriate administrative sanctions and disciplinary processes
- Inputs and regularly updates case data in Case IQ
- Updates investigation statistics for the Manager's review to incorporate into required statistical reports
Qualifications/Experience - Four-year degree in a field relevant to Human Resources, Law, Paralegal, and/or Investigations. A combination of education, experience and relevant designation/certification will be considered
- Minimum five (5) years of related progressive experience conducting complex investigations related to harassment, discrimination, violence prevention, and sexual violence
- Previous investigative experience in a large institutional environment
- Demonstrated experience operating in a legal type environment where caseloads and workload can fluctuate
- Demonstrates a high-level of attention to detail
- Experience developing and delivering training modules
- Experience interpreting and applying legislation and policies and procedures related to human rights
- Knowledge of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) theory and practice, including awareness of racism, sexism, ableism and other forms of discrimination, unconscious bias and intersectional and systemic discrimination, or lived experience in identifying and addressing anti-Black racism and anti-Indigenous racism and all other forms of discrimination and harassment.
- Cultural competency working with diverse and racialized individuals
- Advanced knowledge and application of the Ontario Human Rights Code and relevant sections of OHSA
- Competency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
