Position Summary Information

Primary Purpose

The Interprofessional Clinic (IPC) is the clinical arm of the App Well Institute. It supports and directs all affiliated clinical services (Psychology Clinic, Music Therapy Clinic, Counseling for Faculty and Staff, Communication Disorders Clinic) and direct IPC service providers (Growing Well Clinic, Social Work Counseling and Support Groups, Aging Well Assessments, Nutrition Counseling) in order to provide interdisciplinary training opportunities for students and engage with the community.

The Interprofessional Clinic Operations Manager will provide strategic oversight and hands-on leadership for all administrative and operational functions of the Interprofessional Clinics (Hickory, Boone - University Hall & Leon Levine Hall). This role ensures efficient delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care; maximizes clinician support and revenue cycle integrity; maintains accurate billing, coding, and record-keeping; and supervises key clinic leadership staff. The Manager will work collaboratively with clinical and administrative teams to advance the Institute's mission of improving lives through integrated, multidisciplinary health and wellness services.
While this position's "duty station" will be Boone, NC, it will be traveling between App Well's Interprofessional Clinics in both Boone, NC and in Hickory, NC.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and/or Certifications and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 1 year of healthcare operations management experience, or equivalent work experience with a minimum of 5 years in Health Administration, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in revenue cycle management, medical billing and coding, and EHR optimization.
  • Prior supervisory experience with proven ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams.

  • Exceptional organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong financial acumen and experience with budgeting, forecasting, and performance metrics.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across diverse teams.
  • Proficiency in EHR systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner, CureMD) and MS Office suite.


License/Certification Required

Certified Practice Manager or similar credential preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Operational Leadership
    • Develop, implement, and continuously refine clinic workflows, policies, and procedures to optimize patient throughput, clinician productivity, and resource utilization.
    • Monitor clinic performance metrics (e.g., patient volume, cycle times, no-show rates) and lead operational improvement initiatives.
    • Coordinate with IT and Health Information Management to ensure reliable, compliant electronic health record (EHR) functionality and data integrity.
  • Revenue Cycle Management
    • Oversee all revenue cycle activities, including charge capture, coding accuracy, claims submission, payment posting, and denial management.
    • Partner with appropriate University units to analyze billing and reimbursement trends; design strategies to maximize reimbursement and minimize write-offs.
    • Ensure compliance with payer policies, CPT/ICD coding guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
  • Clinician Support & Staffing
    • Serve as primary operational liaison for subclinic directors; troubleshoot scheduling, credentialing, and workflow challenges.
    • Collaborate with Human Resources and directors to plan staffing needs, recruit and onboard new clinical and support personnel, and manage performance.
    • Organize regular meetings with clinical practice managers to align operational goals, share best practices, and coordinate cross-clinic resource allocation.
  • Supervision & Development
    • Directly supervise clinic staff.
    • Establish clear performance objectives, conduct regular one-on-one meetings, and manage annual performance reviews.
    • Foster professional development through coaching, training, and mentorship; facilitate team-building and cross-training among units.
  • Quality & Compliance
    • Ensure adherence to institutional standards, accreditation requirements, HIPAA regulations, and other applicable policies.
    • Lead or support quality improvement projects, patient safety initiatives, and satisfaction surveys; report outcomes to leadership.
    • Maintain up-to-date documentation of policies, training records, and compliance audits.
  • Strategic Planning & Collaboration
    • Contribute to long-range planning for clinic growth, service line expansion, and resource forecasting.
    • Represent clinic operations on Institute-wide committees (e.g., Aging Well Committee).
    • Build partnerships with internal stakeholders (e.g., Finance, IT, HR, Outreach) and external entities (e.g., community health centers) to support mission-driven initiatives.
