Job Description

As an Internal Technical Accounting Group (ITAG) Manager, you will use your technical accounting and leadership skills to assist audit engagement teams with their accounting issues - all with the resources, environment and support to help you excel. More specifically, you will support audit engagement teams on complex accounting matters arising from regulatory or strategic business changes such as adoption of new accounting standards, transactional accounting applications, among others.

You'll collaborate with audit engagement teams and Grant Thornton's audit clients because together is how we succeed. You will also collaborate with the Accounting Principles Group (APG) and the Professional Practice Directors (PPD) in determining areas which require consultation with experts within those groups.

From day one, you'll be empowered with access to firm leaders, mentors, and training programs to help you achieve more, confidently.

Your day-to-day may include:
  • Supporting multiple engagement teams concurrently on complex accounting transactions
  • Assist audit engagement teams on technical accounting matters including reviewing management memos, preparing GT documentation within management's memos, preparing technical accounting positions for internal records, providing support around transaction audit review, and preparing memos for consultation with APG and/ or PPD
  • Ensuring work is performed timely, with quality, and in compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Training and supervising less experienced colleagues and providing consistent, regular feedback
  • Prepare training materials and facilitate targeted training sessions for the broader audit practice
  • Assist in developing technical accounting memo templates as well as other templates, as required
  • Represent Grant Thornton at recruiting and professional networking events
  • Building your technical and professional skills through formal training
  • Other duties as assigned

You have the following technical skills and qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, economics, finance, mathematics, or related disciplines required; Master's degree a plus
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in providing financial statement audits, accounting advisory services, or corporate accounting/finance center of excellence experience focusing on complex accounting transactions
  • An active CPA license is required
  • Working knowledge in accounting standards including revenue, debt/ equity, consolidation/ VIE, business combinations, share- based payments, going concern, discontinued operations and held for sale, and impairment models under ASC 350 and ASC 360, among other areas of US GAAP and IFRS
  • Ability to manage multiple engagements and competing priorities
  • Value teamwork, are agile, and know the power of building strong relationships
  • Are curious about or have exposure to automation and digitization tools as part of audits or in the professional services environment
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills
