The Intermediate Systems Engineer with specialization in Requirement Management will ensure that contractual, technical, and regulatory requirements are systematically captured, traced, verified, and controlled to deliver Engineering work products through all stages of the EC process.
Regulatory Compliance Requirement This position requires direct or indirect access to hardware, software or technical information controlled under the Canadian Export Control List and/or the US the Export Administration Regulations (EAR). Key Areas of Responsibility Systems Engineer with specialization in Requirement Management strive to understand the end-user's needs, limitations, and concept of employment for the system and ensure that they are accurately captured, analyzed, documented, and maintained throughout the system lifecycle. They play a significant role in ensuring that we build systems which are fit for purpose and not merely technically compliant.
The essential functions and responsibilities of a requirements engineer include:
- Leadthe elicitation, analysis, and documentationof system, subsystem, and interface requirements;
- Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure requirements and related work products are consistent with the needs, desires, and concerns of the end-users;
- Ensure that requirements are unambiguous, feasible, testable, and verifiable;
- Develop and maintainrequirements specificationsand related artefacts within the requirements management tool;
- Ensurebidirectional traceabilitybetween requirements and architecture/design, verification, and validation artefacts;
- Perform / Review requirements decomposition / fan-out, including coverage and gap analysis;
- Plan and participate inrequirements reviews, walkthroughs, and signoff activities with engineering and customer representatives.
- Managerequirements baselines and changes, including impact analysis and configuration control.
For this specific project, typical duties will include: - Contribute to the design of the requirements tracking architecture
- Configuring tool modules, views, attributes, and automated compliance reports
- Writing, decomposing, reviewing, and maintaining up-to-date requirements
- Reviewing impact analyses and proposed changes to requirements
- Assisting subject matter experts in producing detailed, high-quality requirements
Basic Qualifications Skills and Abilities:
- At least 4 to 6 years of professional experience in the design and integration of complex systems in commercial and/or military domains.
- At least 2 years of professional experience with a major focus on requirements.
- Ability to succeed in cross-functional/multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to obtain clearances as specified under the Regulatory Compliance section, below.
Education:
- University or college degree in engineering or a related discipline.
Preferred Qualifications In addition to the minimum professional experience specified above, experience in any of the following areas would be considered an asset:
- Requirements management tools such as DOORS and/or Polarion;
- Familiarity with DXL;
- Scripting and Integration technologies - REST APIs, XML/ReqIF exchange formats, Python, Database queries;
- Experience in the in-service-support of naval platforms;
- P. Eng designation is considered an asset.
Physical Demands Standard office work.
Special Position Requirements - Full time, standard business hours. Possibility of travel to east or west coast sites for technical support / installation / inspection onboard ships in dock.
