WSP is currently initiating a search for a Full-Time
Intermediate Professional -Fire & Life Safety Engineer for our
Nashville, TN office. Other locations considered include Arlington VA and Columbia, MD. This search is for a dynamic engineer looking for an opportunity to be involved with a vast range of fire protection and life safety challenges, and a place to learn and grow into a leader within our organization.
This position will be responsible for providing technical assistance with due diligence, design, development, testing, and inspecting of fire and life safety systems on building projects in the public and private sector. Tasks may include assisting with the research, design, concept development, planning, and optimal coordination of automatic sprinkler, fire alarm, mass notification systems, smoke control, egress analysis, and building and fire code analysis review and compliance. The successful candidate will assist the development and execution of fire protection and life safety strategies, foster a culture of technical excellence, participate with innovation, and uphold our high standard of care, particularly in the context of building and fire code consulting.
Your Impact
- Interpretation of building code, life safety, and fire code requirements. This will include familiarity with both ICC and NFPA codes, including IBC and NFPA 101.
- Review of architectural drawings for compliance with building and fire code requirements
- Producing fire safety strategy documents to inform and support the chosen building form throughout the design process.
- Design of fire protection and life safety systems including automatic fire sprinkler systems, fire detection and alarm systems, smoke management systems, and egress systems.
- Prepare fire engineering calculations including smoke modeling and evacuation analysis from simple hand calculations to complex 3D computational modeling.
- Assist in the commissioning of fire protection and life safety systems in commercial, institutional and industrial facilities.
- Following quality control review processes for all project documentation.
- Preparing technical reports/specifications.
- Participating in department initiatives.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications - Bachelor or Master of Science Degree in Fire Protection Engineering, or related Fire Protection degree.
- 1 - 3 years of fire protection and life safety consulting experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications: - Certification/Designation as an Engineer in Training (EIT)
- Knowledge of REVIT and AutoCAD.
- Experience in fire protection engineering design applications.

Compensation:
Expected Salary (all locations): $74,000 - $93,000
WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant's sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
