ROLE OVERVIEW

 

The intermediate piping designer is responsible for the technical excellence of piping design activities.  The successful incumbent will need to provide intermediate level piping design services with respect to piping, structural and process equipment and other associated facility design utilizing Kleinfelder and/or client design standards.  In addition, working as an integral part of the Kleinfelder team, this individual must have a positive attitude, be able to provide guidance to more junior design staff and be always willing to assist the team and lead when required.

 

EXPERIENCE & ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS

  • 7 plus years of piping design experience in the oil and gas industry is a must; EPCM experience is a must.
  • SAIT or NAIT diploma in design/drafting would be an asset - an equivalent combination of experience and education would also be considered.
  • Software experience required – AutoCAD, CADWorx, Plant3D, AutoPLANT, Navisworks, MicroStation
  • Working knowledge of CAD/3D cad admin support is an asset. (developing pipe specs, isometric styles, etc.)
  • Experience with 3D scanning and point cloud software such as ReCap or Scene is an asset.
  • Experience working with point clouds in the 3D cad environment would be strongly recommended.
  • Detailed knowledge of piping systems, components and hardware, including understanding of P&IDs and material take-offs.
  • Well-developed written and oral skills.

RESPONSIBILITES

  • Support mechanical and process engineering teams with design/drafting and organizing technical drawings using engineering and design software.
  • Develop plot plans, PFDs, PIDs, piping layouts and general arrangements, isometrics, 3D models, line designation tables and other drawings as needed.
  • Complete piping design services on multiple energy industry projects of varying size and complexity.
  • Support electrical engineering team in developing drawing deliverables such as single line diagrams, area classification, cable schedules, heat trace isometrics and various other electrical drawings.
  • Play an active role in team and internal stakeholder meetings.
  • Work closely to provide guidance and assistance to team members as needed.
  • Provide input into design budget and hour estimates as required to support proposals and cost estimates.
  • Provide mentorship and direction to more junior piping designers.
  • Aid in the development of work practices and procedures as required.
  • Work within a multidisciplinary project team of designers/engineers and ensure interdisciplinary co-ordination when developing the models.

COMPETENCIES & SKILLS

  • Must be able to go to site from time to time and carry a 50lb backpack; walking involved.
  • Must be able to handle very detailed work and demonstrate a high level of accuracy.
  • Must be helpful and willing to provide mentorship as needed.
  • Must have a "get it done" attitude and be proactive.
  • Must have strong time management skills with the ability to multi-task and manage multiple deadlines.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must be current with developing technologies in both process plant engineering and design software.
